On April 20, the Department of Animal Sciences will celebrate the achievements of those who have enhanced student education and enriched the animal sciences industry through the 1st annual Evening of Excellence Recognition Banquet.
This year, the Department will induct Frank Phelps, a Limousin Breeder and Industry Leader, into the Animal Sciences Hall of Fame. Recipients of the Animal Sciences Hall of Fame have demonstrated superior skill and achieved success in the field of Animal Science for themselves and their families. They have also practiced service to others through giving their time, energy and thoughtfulness in the local community.
Mr. Phelps earned his induction into the Hall of Fame through his continued leadership in the agricultural community. Phelps, a 1974 graduate of The Ohio State University Department of Animal Science, distinguishes himself in his career as an innovator in the field environmental stewardship and beef cattle production.
He was twice appointed by USDA Secretary of Agriculture to represent Ohio's beef industry as a member of the Cattlemen's Beef Board. In addition Frank served for many years on the Ohio Beef Council Operating Committee and was also chairman of the beef council. Currently Frank is the Vice President of the Ohio Cattlemen's Association,
Frank, and his wife, Gail, have two grown children, a daughter Mandy and a son Andy, who is also involved in the farming operation in Logan County
