    2023 Livestock Judging Team finishes season at North American International Livestock Exposition

    Louisville, KY- The Livestock Judging Team at the Ohio State University wrapped up the 2023 season at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE). Seniors Ryan Michael, Morgan Price, Sarah Belmonte, Ellie Shaw, Dawson Osborn and Stephen Parthemore – all Animal Sciences students – left NAILE as the 13th High Team in the senior college competition.

  2. 16th Annual Buckeye Bonanza raises funds for equine educational programs

    Bidding has closed on Buckeye Bonanza Horse Sale. 2023 marks the 16th installment of this event, which features costume and showmanship contests as well as student demonstrations. This year's sale attracted bidders from 21 states and Canada and raised $33,100 to support the equine educational programs at The Ohio State University.

    Dr. Lyda Garcia with the Department of Animal Sciences, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University has been appointed to serve on the Heritable Genetic Modification in Food Animals Committee, an ad hoc committee within the National Academy of Sciences.

  6. Matthew Chaney

    Matthew Chaney joins the Department of Animal Sciences as the new Livestock Evaluation Coordinator

    Matthew Chaney joined the Department of Animal Sciences on September 25th, 2023. Matthew is the new Livestock Evaluation Coordinator in charge of coaching the Livestock Judging team here at Ohio State University.  In addition, Mr. Chaney will instruct students in the Livestock Evaluation course and assist with the Animal Handling class as well.

    The Department of Animal Sciences is pleased to announce the addition of two new faculty members; Dr. Rafael Domingues, Assistant Professor in Ruminant Physiology and Dr. Ramon Zegpi Lagos, Assistant Professor in Poultry Diseases. Both joined the department in August 2023.

         Through a collaboration with Prairie View A&M University, Ohio State University’s Associate Professor and Extension Meat Specialist, Dr. Lyda G. Garcia welcomed four undergraduate students for the month of July to learn and get hands-on experience working alongside OSU Meat Science Extension programs, County Fairs, and National Associations to name a few.
