Animal Sciences faculty Dr. Alvaro Garcia Guerra has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure. Dr. Garcia Guerra studies the mechanisms regulating ovarian follicle development, the physiology of pregnancy maintenance, and farm technologies for identification of reproductive processes and behaviors.

Columbus, OH- While a sea of blue and gold jackets flooded Columbus for the Ohio FFA State Convention on May 2-3, 2024, several members of the A.B. Graham Ohio Hi-Point FFA swapped the corduroy for a coat in the Animal Sciences Meat Lab. The FFA Chapter at Graham High School has volunteered annually for their local food pantries, and recently received a grant to process two hogs in partnership with the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University. This course is offered fully online and is asynchronous, while earning you 3-credits in a Natural Science GE.

Led by Dr. Callan Lichtenwalter, this online course is intended to promote an understanding of the historical, biological, philosophical, environmental, and economic issues surrounding the use of animals to meet human needs. In this course, you will have the opportunity to interact with people of diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences for a common focus on the issue of using animals to meet human needs.

The Undergraduate and Graduate Research Poster Presentations were held at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center on April 9th during Celebration of Research Week at The Ohio State University. Animal Sciences student Melva Tacuri Vera, advised by Dr. Brady Campbell and Dr. Ben Wenner, received first place in the Animal Sciences undergraduate poster competition category, and Nicole Pickard, advised by Dr. Kim Cole, received first place in the Social Sciences undergraduate poster competition category. Mike Bumgarner, a graduate of The Ohio State University’s Department of Animal Sciences was honored as the 2024 Animal Sciences Hall of Fame Inductee during the year-end celebration for the department. Throughout his undergraduate career at Ohio State, Mike was a member of the highly successful Livestock Judging Team. After graduating from Ohio State, he continued his education, earning his Master of Science degree from the University of Connecticut while serving as the coach of their Livestock Judging Team.
