Led by Dr. Callan Lichtenwalter, this online course is intended to promote an understanding of the historical, biological, philosophical, environmental, and economic issues surrounding the use of animals to meet human needs. In this course, you will have the opportunity to interact with people of diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences for a common focus on the issue of using animals to meet human needs.

The Undergraduate and Graduate Research Poster Presentations were held at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center on April 9th during Celebration of Research Week at The Ohio State University. Animal Sciences student Melva Tacuri Vera, advised by Dr. Brady Campbell and Dr. Ben Wenner, received first place in the Animal Sciences undergraduate poster competition category, and Nicole Pickard, advised by Dr. Kim Cole, received first place in the Social Sciences undergraduate poster competition category. Mike Bumgarner, a graduate of The Ohio State University’s Department of Animal Sciences was honored as the 2024 Animal Sciences Hall of Fame Inductee during the year-end celebration for the department. Throughout his undergraduate career at Ohio State, Mike was a member of the highly successful Livestock Judging Team. After graduating from Ohio State, he continued his education, earning his Master of Science degree from the University of Connecticut while serving as the coach of their Livestock Judging Team.

Animal Sciences faculty Dr. Stephen Boyles has been recognized as a 2024 College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Distinguished Teacher. He has primarily taught the contemporary issues class and has also taught the our 3130 animal nutrition course several times. He has had the lead in capstone and career classes. In his teaching and advising, Boyles has impacted the lives of thousands of students. He worked with many young people with backgrounds in production agriculture and always took a mentor approach.
