  1. The OSU Livestock Judging Team Takes High Overall Team at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition

    The OSU Livestock Judging Team competed and was the high overall team at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition in Harrisburg, PA on October 9th! The team was 1st in sheep, 1st in swine, 2nd in cattle, and 3rd in reasons. Maggie Pollard was 2nd in cattle, high individual in Angus judging, 1st in sheep, 8th in swine, and 1st in reasons. Jimmy Stickley was 7th in cattle, 2nd in swine, 2nd in sheep, and 2nd in reasons.

  2. Menuka Bhandari and Kush Kumar Yadav Receive 2021 Agricultural Technology and Science Communication Scholarship (CAST)

    Congratulations to Kush Kumar Yadav (Kenney Lab) and Menuka Bhandari (Rajashekara Lab) for receiving the 2021 Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) https://www.cast-science.org/ communication scholarship. Kush and Menuka are two of the 10 recipients of this scholarship. As a part of this scholarship, they will be attending the CAST exclusive annual meeting held on the OSU Columbus campus from October 26-28.  At the meeting, CAST scholarship recipients will be recognized and awarded with a certificate and stipend.

  4. Animal Sciences and CFAH Faculty Receive Research Grant Awards

    Congratulations to Dr. Gireesh Rajashekara and Dr. Renukaradhya Gourapura from the Center of Food Animal Health and Dr. Kichoon Lee and Dr. Zhongtang Yu from the Department of Animal Sciences on being awarded research grants.
     

    Dr. Gireesh Rajashekara and Dr. Renukaradhya Gourpura were awarded a $625,100 Food Safety grant from USDA-NIFA for their research on "Drinking water deliverable chitosan based Salmonella and Campylobacter subunit vaccine for broilers".

  5. Bonnie Ayars Honored with National Dairy Shrine's Pioneer Award

    Congratulations Bonnie!

    Bonnie Ayars was among four recipients for the 2021 outstanding individuals honored with the National Dairy Shrine's Pioneer Award in recognition of their significant contributions to the dairy industry. Bonnie's portrait and accomplishments will be displayed in the National Dairy Shrine's Dairy Hall of Fame and Museum in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin. Bonnie is a Dairy Program Specialist in the Department of Animal Sciences since 2006.  

    The other three recipients of the award were Dieter Krieg, Dr. Ric Grummer, and Darrell Pidgeon.

  7. Dr. Stephen Boyles Named 2021 National Beef Quality Assurance Educator

    The National Cattlemen's Beef Association and National Beef Board have named Dr. Stephen Boyles, Professor in the OSU Department of Animal Sciences, as the 2021 National Beef Quality Assurance Educator.  The National BQA Educator Award recognizes an outstanding educator that best demonstrate animal care and handling principles as part of the day-to-day activities. A common trait among all recipients is a strong desire to continually improve BQA on cattle operations while encouraging others to implement the producer education program.

  9. Yifei (Nicole) Wang Wins First Place in Research Poster Competition at 2021 American Meat Science Association (AMSA) Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) in Reno, Nevada

    Congratulations to Ph.D. student, Yifei (Nicole) Wang, who won first place in the research poster competition at the American Meat Science Association (AMSA) Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) in Reno, Nevada.  Nicole's advisor is Dr. Ben Bohrer in the Department of Animal Sciences.

    The title of Nicole's research poster was "Myoglobin Post-Translational Modifications Influence Fresh Beef Color Stability".

  10. CHAIRE Presents Family-Animal Interaction Day

    Please join us for an exciting afternoon of animal interactions and demonstrations featuring the Cat Welfare Association, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, COSI, the Ohio Wildlife Center, agricultural animals from The Ohio State University, and much more! There will be food trucks, educational opportunities, kids' games, and auction items. We invite all families and friends to come enjoy a day of animal-interactions and learn more about CHAIRE! For the safety of our animals and guests, please keep your companion animals at home during this event.
