    Congratulations Kush!

    Kush Yadav received the Dr. Redman and Center for Food Animal Health Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Travel Award 2021 to present at the 102nd CRWAD meeting.

    He won the David Francis Award (3rd place) given by the NC1202 Enteric Diseases of Food Animals Awards Committee.  His oral presentation was entitled: “Ribosomal protein S17 (RPS17) insertion increases avian hepatitis E virus (aHEV) replication”

  4. MacKenzie Dore Joins Animal Sciences as 4-H Program Coordinator

    The 4-H Animal Sciences team is excited to announce MacKenzie Dore as our new Program Assistant. MacKenzie is a recent graduate (‘20) of the Department of Animal Sciences, with a minor in Agribusiness and Applied Economics. She grew up raising and showing both cattle and swine, and is passionate about judging swine and educating youth in the livestock industry. MacKenzie interned 3 years for 4-H Animal Sciences and brings that experience in Skillathons and judging contest programming to her new position.

  5. 2021 Animal Welfare Judging Assessment Contest

    The Intercollegiate Animal Welfare Judging/Assessment Contest (AWJAC) virtually celebrated its 21st year of competition on November 20th and 21st. The Ohio State University was once again well-represented across all student divisions: undergraduate junior, undergraduate senior, graduate, and veterinary. Students were co-coached by Zach England and Dr. Jess Pempek, and species covered in this year’s contest included psittacines as pets, cats in a research setting, and boar studs.

  6. Ohio Department of Agriculture Names Dr. Kristy Shaw as Emergency Preparedness and Disease Programs Coordinator

    Congratulations to Dr. Kristy Shaw!

    Kristy Shaw received her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University.  She has experience as a private practice and field veterinarian with the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Division of Meat Inspection.  Dr. Shaw began her new role as Emergency Preparedness and Disease Programs Coordinator within the Division of Animal Health at ODA in October, 2021.  Dr. Shaw will play an important role in coordinating all animal disease programs for the agency.

  9. The OSU Livestock Judging Team Takes High Overall Team at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition

    The OSU Livestock Judging Team competed and was the high overall team at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition in Harrisburg, PA on October 9th! The team was 1st in sheep, 1st in swine, 2nd in cattle, and 3rd in reasons. Maggie Pollard was 2nd in cattle, high individual in Angus judging, 1st in sheep, 8th in swine, and 1st in reasons. Jimmy Stickley was 7th in cattle, 2nd in swine, 2nd in sheep, and 2nd in reasons.

  10. Menuka Bhandari and Kush Kumar Yadav Receive 2021 Agricultural Technology and Science Communication Scholarship (CAST)

    Congratulations to Kush Kumar Yadav (Kenney Lab) and Menuka Bhandari (Rajashekara Lab) for receiving the 2021 Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) https://www.cast-science.org/ communication scholarship. Kush and Menuka are two of the 10 recipients of this scholarship. As a part of this scholarship, they will be attending the CAST exclusive annual meeting held on the OSU Columbus campus from October 26-28.  At the meeting, CAST scholarship recipients will be recognized and awarded with a certificate and stipend.
