Swine team members organize programs to help meet challenges like increased feed costs, welfare concerns about gestation stalls and other housing concerns, and nutrient management. Although programs and activities may change from year to year, generally the team is involved in a number of on-going programs. The team hosted the National Junior Swine Association Boot Camp in 2012 with record attendance. Team members are involved with the Ohio Pork Congress, Swine Health Symposium for veterinarians, the Food Animal Handling for First Responders program, Pork Quality Assurance Plus program, and Ohio State Fair activities, including the Performance Barrow Show (and Performance Pen Contests), Champion Swine Carcass Contest, and Carcass Awards Program. Other programs include Ventilation Training Workshops, Youth Pork Quality Assurance Plus, Livestock Mortality Composting, and various county clinics.
