The Beef Team provides education programs to address challenges like profitability due to high feed costs, drought, marketing challenges, and matching cattle genetics to the production system. Although programming may change from year to year, the OSU Beef Team is involved in events including the Beef Cattle School, which provides education in economics, marketing, genetics and breeding; the Beef 509 program, in conjunction with the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, which teaches beef producers how to assign value to cattle by comparing live cattle with carcasses and economic value assigned to various cuts; a drought management program; and the Ohio Livestock Environmental Assurance program.
