Texas A&M University’s Global Health Research Complex (GHRC), in partnership with the USDA National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility, is pleased to offer a unique, grant-funded summer internship designed to prepare future animal caretakers for careers in biocontainment research environments.
This competitive 4-week program (Dates: June 1 – 26, 2026), hosted at GHRC in College Station, TX, provides training at no cost to participants, including travel support and a stipend. The program also includes a training field trip to the Galveston National Laboratory. Capacity is limited to five students, offering a highly personalized, hands-on internship opportunity.
Participants will receive hands-on training in:
- Animal husbandry and care within biocontainment settings for livestock species (such as goats, sheep, pigs)
- The role of animal research in supporting health and agriculture
- Biosafety and biosecurity principles
- Proper selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Common procedures in a large animal biocontainment research setting
