  1. The Animal Science Department is hosting Fajita Fiesta, a student-faculty winter mixer! Feel free to stop by Tuesday, January 23rd in the Animal Sciences Arena from 5:30-7:30. This is a great way to get to know your professors and make new connections.

CAMPUS NEWS & EVENTS

  1. Ever wondered how the Farm Bill affects our food and agricultural landscape?

  2. The SP24 CFAES Career Fair will be held on Feb. 13th in the Ohio Union from 1-4pm. Find more information here.

  3. The “2024 Connections Corner: Student/DVM Luncheon” which will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 in conjunction with the Midwest Veterinary Conference (MVC)!

  4. The Department of Animal Science is seeking feedback from students, faculty and staff regarding the current website. This feedback will help shape information and resources shared on the website in the future, and the survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

INTERNSHIP & PART-TIME ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. The Ohio Department of Agriculture is currently accepting applications for the following additional 2024 Summer Internship positions:

     Pathology Intern – ADDL – The deadline for applying is Sunday, February 4, 2024.

  2. Kentucky Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center (KESMARC) has extended the application deadline for our Summer internship program. The new deadline to apply is January 31st!

  3. Ohio Cattlemen's Association is seeking applicants for its summer internship program. Applications are due February 15th. Apply here.

  4. The Ohio Soybean Council is seeking judges to evaluate youth science fair projects at district science fairs across Ohio on Saturday mornings in March.

  6. W.H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute are now welcoming applications for four paid internship programs that will run from Monday, May 20-Friday, August 16, 2024. Applications are due February 15th:

  7. As cardiovascular researchers, one of our most essential responsibilities is to function as mentors and offer opportunities to inspire impactful careers regardless of race, ancestry, sex, gender, or socioeconomic background.

  8. Parker Dairy Ice Cream is looking to build of team of students to assist with ice cream production. Duties include:

    -label printing

    -labeling cups

    -being point-of-sale during events

    -production (4-8 hour blocks of time, depending on the production schedule)

  9. Purina Animal Nutrition is looking for a Summer 2024 Intern to work at the equine research unit in Gray Summit, MO.

  10. The Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB) is delighted to invite applications for the 2024 Summer Internship Program. This opportunity provided for dairy or animal science students will include learning and using research techniques to analyze dairy cattle genetics and management data.

  11. Do you have Animal Science/ Pre-vet/ Environmental Science/ Psychology/Education/ students graduating in December that need an immersive internship? Green Chimney's have a unique internship from January to August which includes free room and board and a small stipend located in Brewster, NY.

  12. For two years Texas Tech University has administered the National Bio- and Agri-defense Facility (NBAF) training program through support from USDA-APHIS. The objective of the program is to train undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and animal handling.

  18. Elanco Animal Health Incorporation has just released new internship positions for summer of 2024! Here are some different positions listed below along with their application portals:

FULL-TIME JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Jefferson County is seeking a motivated, forward-thinking leader for the position of Fairgrounds Complex Manager OR Senior Fairgrounds Complex Manager.

  2. Sims Farms is searcing for a herd manager to manage a show cattle and breeding stock herd located near Marion, Ohio. Find more information here.

  3. The Indiana Beef Cattle Association is searching for a Communications, Operations and Membership Manager to join the staff. 

  4. ST is excited to have two new fulltime position opportunities and hopes to recruit some top talent to join the team at STgenetics as they launch an exciting new platform for animal health monitoring and dairy management.

  5. The Calf Milk Research unit at Land O'Lakes just opened a position for an assistant manager! Applicants should have calf and data handling experience to apply.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

  1. The $1,500 Andrew F. Giesen III Poultry Science Undergraduate Internship Award is given to financially support students who have secured an internship for the year the award is given.

  2. The CFAES Student Council is pleased to announce that the nomination forms are now open for the 2024 CFAES Student Awards. The award categories include: CFAES Student Awards, CFAES Service to Students Awards, and CFAES Student Organization Awards.

  3. CFAES is hosting two upcoming career fair prep sessions on January 25th and February 7th.  Find more information here.

  4. The Ohio Pork Council is excited to announce a new opportunity for college students in Ohio studying agriculture – the Ohio Pork Collegiate Leaders Program. 

HELPFUL RESOURCES

  1. All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

  4. The Career Services page on the departmental site has been redeveloped to hopefully make it more user-friendly. Check out helpful resources for building a resume, writing cover letters and more. There are resume templates that can be used to create a resume in case you don’t know where to start
