Animal Sciences faculty Dr. Stephen Boyles has been recognized as a 2024 College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Distinguished Teacher. He has primarily taught the contemporary issues class and has also taught the our 3130 animal nutrition course several times. He has had the lead in capstone and career classes. In his teaching and advising, Boyles has impacted the lives of thousands of students. He worked with many young people with backgrounds in production agriculture and always took a mentor approach. Dr. Boyles understood the role of an advisor as so much more than just academics– he offered insights on careers and on life that positively impacted his advisees beyond their time in Columbus. As an educator, Boyles was known for spurring lively discussion and encouraging students to think critically.
Dr. Boyles is active beyond the classroom as well, serving as a STEP mentor. He has been an advisor for the Saddle and Sirloin Club and the Epsilon Sigma Phi sorority. He has been invited by the university to do workshops for incoming Graduate Teaching Assistants on teaching techniques, and he is a past recipient of the Ohio State Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. Currently, he is working with Ohio State Libraries personnel in converting two Canvas courses to a format suitable for the Ohio State Knowledge Bank.
Today, Dr. Stephen Boyles has spent over three decades impacting the lives of livestock producers and young people in the state of Ohio and beyond. He has been recognized as a CFAES Distinguished Teacher, as well as a National BQA Educator Award Recipient.
