Dr. Steve Boyles takes part in training first responders on how to handle incidents involving livestock

Dec. 12, 2022
Dr. Stephen Boyles, presenting to first responders during livestock incident training

Dr. Steve Boyles took part in a half day training session presented by Andrew Holden, Ohio State University Extension educator on October 22, 2022. First responders were in attendance from Ashtabula, Geauga, and Trumbull counties. The training was focused on how first responders and emergency personnel should respond to situations involving livestock. First responders received training on how to properly handle livestock, toured different types of livestock trailers and learned the best methods on how to cut into the trailers to extract trapped animals.

This training session was inspired by an unfortunate livestock transportation accident that occured in Ohio earlier this year. Training seminars similar to this one may be available in other parts of Ohio in the future.

Farm and Dairy magazine featured the training in their November 30th addition; to read the article Click Here.
