COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Livestock Judging Team continued to make strides towards success with a fifth overall team finish at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest held on March 17th in Houston, Tx. En route to Ohio State’s first top five finish at a contest with more than 20 teams since 2004, the team also posted a new Buckeye reasons record at a major contest. The reasons record was previously held by the 2012 team (which broke the school’s previous mark set in 1984) at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.
Zach Bartenslager of Lewisburg, W. Va. was awarded tenth place in the sheep and goat division. Courtney Tarvin of Mt. Olivet, Ky. finished third in cattle, and Levi Criswell of Marion, Ohio followed her in fourth to lead OSU to a third place team finish in that species. Tonya Fender of Lynchburg, Ohio finished fourth in overall class placings.
The team is eager for their next and final spring contest, the All East Livestock Judging Contest, being held at Purdue University in April. The 2014 OSU Livestock Judging Team consists of Zach Bartenslager, Lewisburg, W. Va., Levi Criswell, Marion, Ohio, Tonya Fender, Lynchburg, Ohio, Megan Hunker, Bellevue, Ohio, Jacob Ruffing, Republic, Ohio, Cody Shafer, Eaton, Ohio, Courtney Tarvin, Mt. Olivet, Ky., and Lydia Ulry, Johnstown, Ohio. Emily Limes, Bowling Green, Ohio, is serving as the Assistant Coach of the team.
