The Animal Welfare Judging Team, lead by Zach England, M.S., Lecturer with the Department of Animal Sciences, had 15 students compete in the inaugural American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) spring virtual Animal Welfare Assessment Contest. The virtual event took place April 22-23 with students from around the world participating.
This year the students assessed potbellied pigs and broiler breeder chickens. Each student took part in assessing the animals using scientific theory and data to evaluate their welfare.
