Shonna Smith advised by Dr. Gireesh Rajashekara attended the 2023 MANRRS National Conference April 12-16th in Atlanta, GA. Shonna was appointed as a National Officer, serving as the 2023-2024 Region II Graduate Vice President.
“Shonna Smith is a Master’s Student in Animal Science specializing in food safety and disease prevention from The Ohio State University. She is a proud graduate of Southern University and A&M College receiving a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Science with a concentration in Animal Science. Her interests are in food safety, food security, health equity and policy reform. She plans to increase health education on foodborne pathogens through her current graduate research. Her ultimate goal is to be an advocate for food security and sustainable food systems. She wants to bring her diverse background to increase initiatives in health and agricultural policy. MANRRS has played a huge role in my personal and career development for the past 5 years. She is excited to serve as the National MANRRS Region II Graduate Vice President. She wants to guide and aid the next generation of scholars through their career journey and be an advocate for diversity in agriculture, natural resources and related sciences.”
