COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Livestock Judging Team finished sixth at the American Royal Intercollegiate Livestock Judging contest held on Nov. 1, in Kansas City, Mo. This is the highest finish at the American Royal since 2004, when the team placed third overall.
Ohio State was among 25 university teams from across the country to judge five cattle classes, four swine classes, two sheep classes and one goat class before presenting eight sets of oral reasons. OSU placed third in swine judging, seventh in cattle, ninth in the sheep and goat division, and tenth in oral reasons.
Preparation is underway for the final contest of the year that will be held on November 17th at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Ky. Kalmbach Feeds is sponsoring the trip to the NAILE, which is the national championship contest for university livestock judging teams.
The 2014 OSU Livestock Judging Team consists of Zach Bartenslager, Lewisburg, W. Va., Levi Criswell, Marion, Ohio, Tonya Fender, Lynchburg, Ohio, Megan Hunker, Bellevue, Ohio, Jacob Ruffing, Republic, Ohio, Cody Shafer, Eaton, Ohio, Courtney Tarvin, Mt. Olivet, Ky., and Lydia Ulry, Johnstown, Ohio. Emily Limes, Bowling Green, Ohio, is serving as the Assistant Coach of the team.
