    Melinda Jones - Office Services Coordinator, joins the Department of Animal Sciences

    Melinda Jones "Mindy" comes to CFAES as our new Office Services Coordinator. She has a very diverse background in office administration and customer service. Mindy is new to Ohio, hailing from the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) areas May of last year. She has worked for United healthcare in Maryland as a Clinical Administrative Coordinator, Kemper House in Worthington as an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist, and Executive Assistant/Deputy Town Clerk in Lake County Florida.

  2. Dr. Stephen Boyles retires following decades of impact on beef producers nationwide

    Dr. Stephen Boyles will retire from his role in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University in March of 2024, following thirty plus years of service to our students, faculty, and the Ohio community at large. Boyles service to the department has been critical in the advancement of the Department of Animal Sciences through his adaptability and flexibility in his extension and teaching endeavors.

  3. Cindy Coy retires after decades of contributions to Animal Sciences research

    Cindy Coy will retire from her role in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University in March of 2024, following forty-four years of service to Ohio State and twenty-six years of service in her current position of research supervisor in Animal Sciences where her contributions to research have advanced the field of poultry science.

  4. Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Velleman retires following three decades of industry leadership

    Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Velleman will retire from her role in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University in March of 2024, following thirty years of service to our students, faculty, and the Ohio community at large. Velleman  has been a pioneer in Avian muscle biology and an asset to our department and students over the years.

  5. Columbus and Wooster Campus students compete in ASAS Midwest Academic Quadrathlon

    The Ohio State University was represented well at the ASAS Midwest Academic Quadrathlon in Madison, WI. This competition tests the team in all areas of animal science and incorporates hands-on production tasks though the practicum, written evaluation, and oral communication, as well as creativity through the presentation and quick thinking/trivia knowledge through the quiz bowl. The team placed 5th in oral presentations, 7th in the written exam, 7th in the quiz bowl, and 9th in the practicum.

  6. Dr. Callan Lichtenwalter

    Dr. Callan Lichtenwalter joins the Department of Animal Sciences

    Dr. Callan Lichtenwalter joined the Department of Animal Sciences in February of 2024.

    Callan joins us following her PhD program at Washington State University, where her research focused on dairy cattle welfare and behavior, as well as European Starling Management. Callan currently instructs Animal Health 2 and will also be leading Companion Animal Biology in the fall. She also works to coordinate global education for the department, a key component of the experiences of Animal Sciences students.

    If you had asked Animal Sciences alumna Dr. Ashley Blilie where she would be in ten years when she was a freshman at The Ohio State University, she probably would have told you: practicing veterinary medicine.  

  8. 2024 CFAES Distinguished Senior Award Recipients Announced

    23 seniors have been recognized with the most prestigious undergraduate award at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), with three hailing from the Department of Animal Sciences. The Distinguished Senior Award honors top graduating seniors on the Ohio State Columbus campus who exemplify the CFAES mission in areas such as academics and scholarship, research and innovation, service and involvement, and influence and leadership.

    Animal Sciences students earn 5th High Team honors at Fort Worth Stock Show Dairy Judging Competition

    Fort Worth, TX- The Dairy Judging Team at the Ohio State University kicked off the 2024 season at the Fort Worth Stock Show (FWSS). Students Lindsay Davis, Rachel Sherman, Grant Debruin, and Brady McCumons – all Animal Sciences students – left FWSS as the 5th High Team in the collegiate competition.

    19 meat and poultry processors participated in the Introductory Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Process (HACCP) course on January 25 & 26, 2024.  Allyssa Hedges, Training Development Analyst with Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Division of Meat Inspection, and Paul Daniels, retired from USDA FSIS meat inspection, helped facilitate the HACCP workshops alongside coordinator and Animal Sciences faculty, Dr. Lynn Knipe.
