Firkins Named Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA)

Dr. Jeffrey Firkins was named a Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) and will be honored at the 2020 ADSA annual meeting that will be held virtually due to COVID-19 on June 22-24, 2020. 

Dr. Firkins has contributed to the dairy industry, to nutrition science, and to ADSA since first joining ADSA in 1987 and is truly worthy of being named a Fellow, one of the society’s highest honors.  He has a highly productive research program with 115 journal papers, 16 review papers, and 6 book chapters as author or co-author.  He has garnered approximately $3.9 million in extramural funding to support his ruminant nutrition research program. He has advised 14 PhD students and 10 MS students, many of whom are now active members of ADSA and are positively impacting the dairy industry in the US and abroad. He is a senior editor for the Journal of Dairy Science and a member of National Academy of Science’s Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle Committee. Dr. Firkins has been on the faculty at Ohio State University for 33 years.

The ADSA Fellow award is to recognize members of ADSA providing distinguished service to the dairy industry.  The recipient of the Fellow must be a member currently of ADSA, a member for a minimum of 20 years, and have made exceptional contributions to the dairy industry, dairy-related discipline, or ADSA.
