In conjunction with the 52nd AIARD Annual Conference, the Future Leaders Forum will be offered again this year thanks to the support of USAID.
The Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development (AIARD) administers this competitive fellowship program to provide partial financial support to students attending both: 1) the AIARD Annual Conference (June 5-7) and 2) the annual Future Leaders Forum in Washington, D.C. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to students who have a demonstrated interest in international agriculture and rural development issues and their solutions.These fellowships are intended to enhance the students' understanding and appreciation of issues and opportunities in international agriculture and rural development. This program is open to students attending US universities (both US citizens and foreign nationals) who are interested in international agricultural and rural development positions. The objectives of the program are to:
• Facilitate student attendance and participation in the AIARD Annual Conference in Washington, DC.
• Broaden student vision and help build a broad array of social/cultural, economic and scientific skills required to become an effective 21st century professional in international agriculture and rural development
• Facilitate career visioning and networking by providing a day and a half of visits to DC-based agencies, companies and organizations engaged in international agriculture and rural development;
Applications for scholarships are evaluated by an AIARD committee. As noted above, fellowships are intended to only partially cover expenses related to travel, lodging, registration fees and meals, so students receiving the fellowships will be responsible for obtaining additional funding to cover the total costs of participation.
The deadline for applications is April 12 at 11:59 p.m., Pacific time. Fellowship recipients will be notified via email shortly after selection process is completed on April 30. This year's application can be found online.
