Can you believe this semester is almost over?

ACADEMIC DATES & INFO

  1. Do you have or will you soon have a bachelor’s degree in science with an emphasis on biology and/or chemistry? Are you a problem solver, accurate, dependable, able to work well under pressure, and driven to complete tasks once started?

  2. Are you curious how/why people make decisions about animals? Do you want to explore your particular animal-related area of interest in more depth? Consider enrolling in Human Dimension of Animal Sciences (AnimSci 5000)! The class will be offered in Autumn 2018 T/Th 2:20-3:40 and taught by Dr.

  3. Rabbits help lower cholesterol. Cats may lead to a breakthrough in the AIDS epidemic. And dogs have taught doctors new heart surgery techniques. Even lobsters help scientists understand Parkinson's disease.

CAMPUS NEWS & EVENTS

  1. Do you enjoy sharing your passion for Ohio State with others? Would you be willing to show high school students what it is like to be a Buckeye? The "Experience OSU for a Day" (EOFD) Program allows prospective students to get a feel for what college is really like.

INTERNSHIP & PART-TIME ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Saddleberk Pork is seeking an energetic, responsible person who loves pork, pork products and is interested in the local food movement to join their growing company.

  2. The Hollybrook Farm is looking for a summer intern to begin in May. They are looking for someone that enjoys working with cattle and doing general farm activities. For more information on the position, see the attachment.

  3. Are you looking for an internship next fall? Consider this awesome opportunity! All interns need the willingness to work hard and work well with the crew. Please expect to work the long hours that are sometimes associated with production agriculture. Be prepared to dress for the weather.

  4. Sexing Technology in South Charleston, OH has two full-time openings in the heifer calf department and two part time positions available.

  5. Kentucky Equine Management currently has two Ambulatory Veterinary Assistant positions open at Hagyard. One position is starting immediately through the end of June and the other position is starting in April through July.

  6. Sombrero is one of the largest guest horse operations in the country, currently running about 1500 head.  Sombrero has been around for over 50 years and is still owned by the same family.

  7. Based in Chicago, Vienna Beef has been manufacturing super premium quality beef products since 1893. Currently the company manufactures a wide variety of sausage, deli meat and soup products in the newly remodeled Production Plant located in the Bridgewater neighborhood on the South Side of

  8. Dreams on Horseback, a horse-partnered learning center in Blacklick, Ohio, is looking for unpaid summer interns to assist with programs, provide horse care, and co-lead camp activities.

  9. There is an opportunity to work at the Ohio State Fair in the Entry Department! Responsibilities include data input, copying letters, making show programs, and other office work. Knowledge of livestock is beneficial and the ability to work with Microsoft programs is also important.

  10. Suwannee Valley Feeds is a feed company set up in North Florida and caters to Florida and Georgia dairies. They are planning to offer one summer internship position in 2018. The position will have a focus on forage harvest, sampling, and ensiling of corn silage.

  11. North American Meat Institute is looking for a summer intern. Ideally, a highly motivated upper level undergraduate or graduate student interested in a career in the meat industry and policy.

  12. Do you enjoy working with horses? Do you have free time during the week and want to get paid? Stone's Throw Farm is a small equestrian boarding and lesson facility between Dublin and Powell, right next to Sawmill Road.

  13. There are two internships open with the US Trotting Association! Interns will perform tasks related to the gathering, compilation, and dissemination of racing and breeding data for the USTA, its members and customers.

  14. The OSU/ATI Dairy Farm has internship opportunities available at the farm outside Wooster, Ohio. The internship will be available from May through August and would be most suitable for those completing their Freshmen and Sophomore years. The internship will focus on the day to day application of

  15. A barn management internship position is available. The company is looking for equestrian students of any and all disciplines. Applicants must have good work ethic, be able to work on a schedule, and have reliable transportation.

  16. Best Angus and Quarter Horses is a purebred registered Angus operation in the beautiful, rugged badlands of western North Dakota at Elkhorn Creek Ranch, 15 miles southeast of Watford City in McKenzie County. They have multiple paid internship opportunities lasting from May to August.

GRADUATE SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES

  1. Considering Grad School? Over 60% of all infectious diseases of animals can also affect humans, and incidences of new, emerging zoonotic infectious diseases are on the rise.

  2. OSU is looking for motivated, self-driven and productive student to start Masters' of Science program in the 2018 Autumn semester. The position is fully-funder (tuition covered plus stipend) and is focused on economic modeling of dairy farms.

  3. Dr.Dianna Bourassa is looking for a Masters level student that would be interested in working in the area of poultry welfare during stunning and/or euthanasia. Dr.

FULL-TIME JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. There is a Dairy Herd Manager postion opening with Premier Dairies. The Dairy Herd Manager is responsible for the oversight, supervision and performance of a designated dairy herd and farm seven days/week including holidays.

  2. North Dakota State University has an assistantship opportunity. Responsibilities include data recording, entry, analysis; prepare data for reports/manuscripts; assist other professional staff with data analysis when available; supervise undergraduate and staff with collection of field and

  3. Provimi has an opening for a Nutrition Assistant on their Dairy Technical Team at Provimi. The person in this position will be involved in customer support, with a focus on ration formulation software, and will also have opportunities to work with senior staff members on innovation projects.

  4. Buschur Dairy Farms, Inc. has an open herdsman position. In cooperation with Herd Manager, this position will require one to assume responsibility for performing day to day tasks related to the Special Needs barn and Milking Herd.

  6. There are immediate part-time and full-time postions availble at a local farm in Hilliard, OH! Experience is preferred, but not required. Job duties include, but are not limited to, stall cleaning, feeding, grooming, and equipment care.

  7. If you love animals and are passionate about helping pets and people, and want to grow with a veterinary hospital that focuses on providing excellent medical care to family pets, this position may be perfect for you!

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

  1. The North American Meat Institute Scholarship Foundation has opened the scholarships for 2018-2019.  Applications must be submitted online by June 1, 2018.

  2. The NPFDA (National Poultry & Food Distributors Association) Scholarship Foundation is entering its 39th year of scholarship assistance.

  3. Tomorrow's dairy leaders are here today, in classrooms, 4-H clubs, FFA chapters, and on dairy farms across the country. National Dairy Shrine's task is to encourage, stimulate, and inspire them.

  4. The National Dairy Board has multiple scholarships available to sophmore-senior dairy students and students in the dairy club. Eleven scholarships worth $2,500 each will be awarded. Additionally, the NDB awards a $3,500 James H. Loper Jr.
