Positions are available for prospective graduate students with an interest in molecular biology, reproductive physiology or immunology, with a targeted start date in September, 2020. The successful candidates will work under the supervision of Dr. Alex Pasternak on projects requiring a combination of hands on animal work and laboratory techniques. Existing experience with large animal species is not required, but a willingness/desire to gain experience in this area is necessary. Our work will provide opportunity to gain expertise in a wide array of techniques including gene expression assays, fluorescent microscopy, cell culture, flow cytometry and a variety of other immunoassays. Students will also be exposed to contemporary methods for data analysis, statistics and visualization, and hone their skills in the presentation and dissemination of scientific results to different stake holder groups. Through course work and interaction with the diverse faculty in the Department Animal Science, students will gain a larger understanding of animal agriculture and the fundamental biology which underpins its economic success.
Prospective students should have completed at least a B.S. degree in animal sciences or a related field of biology prior to the start of their graduate program. Candidates must also meet the additional admission requirements set forth by the Department of Animal Science at Purdue University. Interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Pasternak by email (jpastern@purdue.edu).
