  1. QTest Labs

    QTest Labs is a CRO that specializes in efficacy, cardiovascular safety, and risk assessment of a pharmaceutical or medical device. They are looking to hire 1-3 animal care technicians over the holidays and into the beginning of the year. 

    An animal care technician works one-on-one with their research animals to maintain their quality of life and health while in their facility. Animal care technicians must be able to review, comprehend and comply with all QTest Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance Standards pertaining to the job.

    Daily duties include:

    • Cleaning animal rooms and cages
    • Feed/Water all animals
    • Update and maintain animal records
    • Laundry and upkeep of facility
    • Document clinical observations of each animal in the facility and alert veterinary staff or any abnormal findings

  2. Miner Institute Paid Internship

    These programs are available to agriculture and life science students in their junior or senior years of study. Students are encouraged to register for college credit at their home institution, and are responsible for making arrangements for credits. These programs are designed as a 4-credit course, although other arrangements may be made through the student’s home institution. Each student’s wage for the semester is $3,000. Students live in the Middleton Miller Student Housing Complex and are provided breakfast and lunch each weekday in our on-site cafeteria.  There is a refundable $100 security deposit for the room which is deducted from the first paycheck and $50 is deducted from each paycheck to cover room and board for the summer, a total cost of $300; netting the student $2700 for the summer. 

    The 2020 program begins May 18 and ends August 14.

  3. IDFA Internship

    IDFA is seeking applicants for its 2020 summer internship, which will offer one undergraduate or recent graduate firsthand experience with the association’s advocacy efforts. Interns will work on dairy policy focused on lawmakers on Capitol Hill and federal officials in regulatory agencies. The selected candidate will work in Washington, D.C.

    The internship is a paid position to begin in May or June and run for 10 to 12 weeks. The successful candidate will work with IDFA’s legislative or regulatory affairs teams on special projects, research and events including IDFA’s Regulatory RoundUP, legislative fly-ins and fly-outs, and the Annual Capitol Hill Ice Cream Party, among others.

    Students with an interest in food and agriculture policy are encouraged to apply.

    To qualify, candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an accredited college or university. Candidates must also be pursuing or have obtained a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in business, political science, international affairs, agriculture, the food and beverage industry, food science or a related field. Each candidate will be required to submit an application, a resume, a one-page essay and references.

  4. Fish Facility Position

    The fish facility is looking to hire an undergradute student. Over the years, they have found that the pre-vet students and animal science majors they have hired tend to enjoy the experience, so they wanted to reach out directly to those students. If you are interested in the position, contact Danielle (pvirre.1) in the lab with your resume and spring course schedule if you are interested in the position. Pay is $10/hour.

  5. Adams Family Farm

    Adams Family Farms is looking to hire an individual who is interested in the swine industry and wants hands on experience. They currently have 3 nursery swine barns that have a total of 20,000 – 30,000 nursery spaces. For more information on the position and how to apply, see here

  6. University of Nebraska Summer Research Program

    The University of Nebraska is now accepting applications for the Summer 2020 Research Program. This 10-week, full-time residential summer research experience provides mentoring and research participation while allowing scholars to preview graduate school life at a Research1 university. All participants receive excellent benefits including competitive stipends, room and board, and travel to and from Lincoln, Nebraska.

    Summer events include graduate school preparation workshops, social and networking activities, and more. You will join a supportive, engaging community of summer scholars who will live and work together. Last summer’s cohort was comprised of over 100 students from across the country.   7. Classic Holiday Film Showings

    Gateway Film Center is showing their Holiday Classics Film Series most nights through December 25, 2018.  Gateway Film Center features holiday craft brews, holiday cocktails made from hot chocolate and hot cider, as well as seasonal theater candy and lots of holiday spirit.

    Admission is $7.50-$9 for matinees and $9-$12 for evening showings.  Or go on Tuesday for $5 tickets and free popcorn all day.

    • December 20 – 25: National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (1989) and White Christmas (1954) in 35MM
  8. Ohio Soybean Council Foundation Scholarships

    The Ohio Soybean Council Foundation is awarding $44,000 in scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students studying agriculture or a related field. 

    Undergradtuate students have will be awarded SEVEN $3,000 Ohio Soybean Council Foundation Scholarships, ONE $3,000 Robinson W. Joslin Scholarship, and ONE $5,000 Bhima Vijayendran Scholarship. Gradaute students will be awarded THREE $5,000 Ohio Soybean Council Foundation Scholarships.

  9. College Scholarships

    All students in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences are encouraged to fill out the College Scholarship Application for the 2020-21 academic year. You will only need to fill out one application to be eligible for scholarships from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, School of Environment and Natural Resources, and ATI/Wooster. The priority deadline for completing the application is February 15, 2020.

    The on-line form requires you to write a short 300 word essay, list of present and previous work experience, involvement in extracurricular activities, and provide details about involvement in groups. Students in the School of Environment and Natural Resources will only need to complete this application for 2020-21 as the supplemental questions are within this application. Applicants who have participated in 4-H regardless of University/College, Campus, or major are to complete this application and the additional supplemental questions when you check “Yes” on the involvement in 4-H.

  10. 2020 International Livestock Congress

    Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 International Livestock Congress Student Fellowships.  The International Livestock Congress (ILC), hosted by the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, is a global event that brings leaders from the livestock and meat industries together to discuss issues of international importance that affect the future of animal agriculture.  The theme of the 2020 ILC will be 2020 Meat: A Health Food that is Good for Mankind and the Environment – Global Perspective.

    To enhance the educational experiences of college students and strengthen the leaders of tomorrow’s livestock and meat industries, the ILC awards travel fellowships annually to senior-level undergraduates and graduate students currently enrolled in accredited colleges or universities.

    Fellowships include ILC registration, airfare, ground transportation, hotel, and scheduled meals.

    The 2020 International Livestock Congress will take place Tuesday, March 3  –  Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Houston, TX

  11. University Ambassadors Application

    University Ambassadors, gives campus tours to prospective high school students and their families. They would like to inform you that applications for our next hiring cycles of Spring/Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 are now open!

    Are you interested in applying? They will be hosting mandatory information sessions on the following dates:

    ·         Tuesday, December 3rd from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in Hagerty Hall 180

    ·         Thursday, January 9th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Visits and Events Suite, Ohio Union 3002

    ·         Monday, January 13th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Visits and Events Suite, Ohio Union 3002

    ·         Friday, January 17th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in Page Hall 0020

    You must attend only one of these information sessions before you apply for either hiring cycle. If you do not attend an information session, your application will not be considered. The information session gives a realistic preview of the job, expectations, and tips to help you submit a strong application!

    An RSVP to attend is not required; simply show up. However, seating on most nights is limited to 150 and we cannot exceed our seating capacity. Arrive early to ensure you have a seat or you will have to attend a different session. Please bring your BuckID to ensure your attendance is recorded.

  12. University Mental Health Resources

    All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

    CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

    Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

    If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.

  13. CFAES Mental Health Counselor

    Did you know that CFAES has hired a counselor to support the needs of their students' mental health?  Dr. Wirt holds counseling sessions in Ag Admin Room 100 four days a week and is in Lincoln Tower on Wednesday. See the attached if you’re interested in making an appointment.

  14. Handshake

    Ohio State has switched to Handshake - a modern career development platform for students to explore career employment, internships and other opportunities, based on their interests, major and skills. FisherConnect and Symplicity (CareerEngine, Hireabuckeye, FutureLink, Buckeye Careers Network) have transitioned to Handshake.

    Handshake offers many exciting new features, including:

    • Relevant feed of job and internship opportunities
    • News feed containing the latest information from career services offices and favorite employers
    • Resources specifically matching students interests

    Student accounts are preloaded and can be accessed at http://handshake.osu.edu/, using their name.# and password. Students will need to complete their profiles with details, such as work experiences, skills, interests and organizations. Next, students can explore the many resources and tools that are available in Handshake.  

  15. Portfolium Resource Page

    The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has renewed its partnership with Portfolium.com and will continue to provide ALL students and faculty the opportunity to create a professional, online digital portfolio. In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.

    You should have already received your Portfolium invitation with the subject: “Access your CFAES Portfolium.” The email contains a link to activate your free verified account within the CFAES network using your Ohio State credentials.  If you missed the initial email, you can also join by using the Portfolium Resource Page.
