2021 SURGe Program - Texas A&M University

The Summer Undergraduate Research in Genetics and Genomics (SURGe) Program is a 10-week intensive research experience under the mentorship of one of Texas A&M's Faculty of Genetics members that also includes a 3-credit hour Bioinformatics class. The free online application is now open for summer 2021 admissions until February 15th, 2021.

The introductory Bioinformatics class will provide training in modern bioinformatics tools via command-line that are used in genetics and genomics and the credits can be transferred to their home institution. Additionally, students will have weekly meetings, which allows them to explore research and career opportunities in genetics and genomics, discuss research ethics, information for applying to graduate schools, and learn effective oral and written presentation skills. 

Financial support: 

·      $5,500 stipend

·      living expenses (room and board) on campus

·      travel expenses

·      Tuition/fees for 3-credit hours
