  2. Animal Welfare and Behavior Club

    The Animal Welfare and Behavior Club is committed to expanding the knowledge of the science of animal welfare to the students at Ohio State University and the public through use of guest speakers, media items and industry tours. The next meeting will be held January 21 at 5:30 in Animal Sciences 210. Katherine Harrison, owner of Harrison Farm, will be speaking about slaughterhouse welfare

  3. OABA Industry Conference

    The Ohio AgriBusiness Association has its annual Industry Conference scheduled for February 3-4, 2016 at the Columbus Marriott Northwest, which provides education and networking opportunities for agribusiness professionals. With widely-respected speakers and industry professionals sharing their expertise related to production, perspectives and performance in agriculture, this event would be a great opportunity for students to learn about the industry and also network with industry professionals.     We will be offering a student registration for the event, which includes daily admission to all educational programming and meals, including the Industry Networking Reception & Dinner and the OABA Annual Meeting on Feb. 3. Student registration fees are as follows:
    Feb. 3 - $90
    Includes admission to educational programming, breakfast, lunch, breaks and the Industry Networking Reception & Dinner and OABA Annual Meeting.
    Feb. 4 - $60
    Includes admission to educational programming, breakfast, lunch and breaks.

  4. Animal Science Academic Quadrathlon

    Test your knowledge in Animal Science by competing against your peers for a chance to represent Ohio State at the Midwestern Section American Society of Animal Science Meetings!  The competition will be held between the PH and AS buildings January 26 and 27 starting at 5:00 pm each evening AND food will be provided! Registration deadline is 5:00pm on January 22. Please see the attachment for more information and registration form. 

  5. Kalahari Safari Adventure Internship

    Safari Adventures at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, OH is looking for strongly motivated and hard working individuals ready for a hands on experience in a AZA accredited zoo. During the course of the internship, students will have the opportunity to work with many different types of animals including giraffes, kangaroos, zebra, lemurs, tiger cubs, and so much more. Attached is the description of what the internship will entail, along with the application and a previous intern’s letter describing her past experience with our program. Applications are being accepted now through March 1 for the summer 2016 season. Please contact lead zookeeper Erin Engelhart with any questions regarding the internship or the application process.

  6. Wild Horse Rescue Internship

    Wild Horse Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit public charity located on a rural McDermott property in Scioto County, Ohio. Many of the horses have been abused or starved at one point in their lives and need human interaction.  Wild Horse Rescue uses natural horsemanship methods along understanding herd behavior to see how the horses react to pressure.  The intern will be supervised and assisted when needed for safety purposes. The intern should live in the area and provide their own transportation to and from the facility.  This is an unpaid opportunity, but the intern will gain benefits that extend to knowledge of equine handling and behavior that has been gained from more than 55 years of experience working with troubled horses.  Work schedules would be flexible.

  7. Summer Experience in Equine Management

    The emphasis of this program is the management of a commercial equine facility and improved horse handling and training skills. Students will learn ground training techniques including halter breaking, lungeing, longlining, and ground driving. Students become proficient at stallion handling, semen collection, and processing as well as broodmare management. More information can be found on the attached flyer. Applications are due February 15.

  8. Summer Experience in Farm Management

    The Summer Experience in Farm Management introduces students to the modern farm as a business, which has as its objective the conversion of plants into milk and meat. All students will be asked to work long hours on occasion, but no more so than would normally be expected on a dairy farm. Students work approximately every other weekend. The application deadline is February 15 and can be found on the attachment.

  9. Summer Experience in Undergrad Research

    Positions are now available for paid undergraduate research at Miner Institute's Forage Lab. Each student will become involved in an independent study project in one of the areas which is the focus of Miner Institute’s research program: dairy nutrition, dairy behavior, equine behavior, dairy reproduction, equine reproduction, crops, nutrient management, and calf management. Each student will work with a faculty member to plan, conduct, and summarize the project. At the end of the summer, oral and written reports will be presented.   10. Part-time BEEFonomics Positions

    The Ohio Beef Council is offering a few part-time positions for juniors, seniors or recently graduated students. Check out the attachment for more details.

  11. USTA Internship

    The U.S. Trotting Association is going to have 2 internships next summer in our Information & Research Department.  Interns will perform tasks related to the gathering, compilation, and dissemination of racing and breeding data for the USTA, its members and customers. Responsible for providing quality assurance as it relates to the performance data transmitted to the USTA by its member tracks and other registries. The USTA requires a minimum of one year college education in an equine studies or related program, extensive harness racing experience, and a brief training period, required at USTA offices in Columbus, Ohio.   14. Select Sires Positions

    Select Sires, Inc. is seeking Livestock Technicians, Shipping Technicians and Processing Technicians at multiple locations. Work schedules and duties vary per facility for these non-exempt positions and employees are paid hourly wages. All work schedules are subject to change to meet departmental needs.   15. Ohio Holstein Women's Scholarship

    The Ohio Holstein Women’s Scholarship is dedicated to the encouragement of deserving and qualified persons with a high school degree and with a dairy background to obtain an Associates, Bachelor’s or Masters Degree, or to start-up and continue in the dairy business. Applicants may be male or female and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.25. Please view the attachment for further details and requirements.   16. Pork Industry Scholarship

    Tthe 2016-2017 Pork Industry Scholarship application period is now open!   All college juniors and seniors who plan to pursue a career in swine production management or a related field, or will be seeking to attend graduate school and major in a discipline with an emphasis on swine are invited to submit an application for one of the scholarships.   The scholarship application and guidelines are located on pork.org with a direct link to the scholarship page located on the front page.   17. ADM Ag Services Scholarships

    Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), a world leader in agricultural processing, is awarding $1,000 scholarships to select college students who plan to enter an operations career in an ag-related field.
    To be considered for a scholarship, students must:
    ·         Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
    ·         Be a U.S. citizen
    Submit the following items by March 1, 2016:
    – A resume
    – A statement outlining personal and professional goals (no more than 500 words)
    – A statement demonstrating interest in pursuing an ag-operations career at ADM.
    Selected applicants will have the opportunity to interview with ADM representatives to further discuss their interest in a career at ADM.

  18. Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program

    Scholarships worth $1,000 will be awarded to 10 college students in their first or second year who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership in agriculture and a perceived ability to contribute to agriculture in the future. Preference goes to first or second year college students pursuing two- or four-year degrees in agronomy, crop production, or closely related fields.
    All applications must be postmarked by February 5, 2016. Winners will be notified by mail in April 2016. 

  19. Student-Alumni Council Scholarships

    The Ohio State University Student-Alumni Council is awarding five scholarships to students who exemplify leadership and academic qualities that align with our organization's mission, vision, and values. Any student with two remaining semesters of undergraduate schooling at Ohio State is eligible. Applications are due on January 31. Visit their website to find a link to the application.     The Women's Center Wednesday, Professional Development and the Forte Foundation event will be held January 25 from 7 - 9pm in the Multicultural Center, Ohio Union. This will be open to all students at The Ohio State University. Attendees will learn about University resources for women’s professional development.   22. Class Honoraries

    The honoraries are now accepting applications for the 2016-2017 academic year. The application links for each honorary can be found here and will be due Friday, January 22, 2016. The basic eligibility requirements for the honoraries are as follows:
    ·         You may apply to one honorary only according to your class level.
    ·         Your cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 3.0.
    ·         You do not need to be a member of the Honors or Scholars Programs.

    The seven class honoraries are listed below, and for more details about each of these honoraries, please go to www.aosch.org/thehonoraries. We encourage you to explore the differences, as each honorary has its own traditions and character. Please note that the seven honoraries overseen by AOSCH are officially registered student organizations at Ohio State.

  23. Experience OSU for a Day Hosts Needed

    Do you enjoy sharing your passion for Ohio State with others? Would you be willing to show high school students what it is like to be a Buckeye? The "Experience OSU for a Day" (EOFD) Program allows prospective students to get a feel for what college is really like. These students visit CFAES frequently, and we are in need of volunteers to show these students around campus when they come to visit.

    EOFD Hosts volunteer to have prospective high school students shadow them from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. for 1-2 weekdays each semester. Hosting is very flexible and can be adjusted to fit your schedule. Hosts are encouraged to take their shadow(s) to see various classrooms, the Oval, the Union, a dorm room, and to eat lunch at Parker Dairy Store (lunch is free for the host and shadow).   24. Animal Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience

    Funding is available to students studying in animal sciences or a related discipline to conduct research with faculty located in Columbus and at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, Ohio.  Applicants must commit to full-time research over a 10 week period during summer 2016 and submit an abstract to participate in the CFAES and University Denman undergraduate research forums spring semester 2017.  Deadline: January 31, 2016.

  25. Towers Agricultural Honorary

    Towers Agricultural Honorary is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2016 class. It was founded in 1952 by Allan W. Smith, in an effort to establish an organization to honor individuals in agricultural fields demonstrating high levels of scholarship, strong leadership skills, and high moral character.  The Honorary is comprised of a variety of majors and backgrounds within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University.  Any student in The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences who has completed at least three academic semesters, or any transfer student who has completed one academic semester in agriculture and is at least a first semester sophomore, has earned an accumulative point hour ratio of 3.00 and has proven himself/herself outstanding in at least one extracurricular activity is eligible for membership.  Throughout the year, Towers' members are involved in a variety of group activities and events. A few of our annual events include quarterly Red Cross blood drives, our Member/Mentor recognition reception, and a Winter Walk throughout the Chadwick Arboretum.

  26. University Mental Health Resources

    All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

    CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

    Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

    If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.

  27. CFAES Mental Health Counselor

    Did you know that CFAES has hired a counselor to support the needs of their students' mental health?  Dr. Wirt holds counseling sessions in Ag Admin Room 100 four days a week and is in Lincoln Tower on Wednesday. See the attached if you’re interested in making an appointment.

  28. Portfolium Resource Page

    The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has renewed its partnership with Portfolium.com and will continue to provide ALL students and faculty the opportunity to create a professional, online digital portfolio. In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.

    You should have already received your Portfolium invitation with the subject: “Access your CFAES Portfolium.” The email contains a link to activate your free verified account within the CFAES network using your Ohio State credentials.  If you missed the initial email, you can also join by using the Portfolium Resource Page.
