The Department of Animal Science under the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a Program Coordinator III – Dairy Farm Manager. The Dairy Farm is a research farm working with external industry partners, vendors, and a diverse group of faculty, and approximately 40 staff and students. The Dairy Farm Manager reports directly to the Animal Science Farm Director. This position is responsible for overall leadership, direction, and management of the ISU Dairy Farm, including the overall herd health and modern and effective production practices for the operation. The Dairy Farm Manager is fully accountable for developing, implementing, and meeting facility safety, quality, environment, cost, and operation plan objectives. Other responsibilities include implementing and assuring alignment with business strategies, processes, and programs to ensure compliance with ISU and regulatory requirements related to: food safety, employee safety, security, environmental, and human resource compliance.
This position will collaborate with faculty on a variety of unique research and teaching projects, coordinate details for scientific data collection, and establish appropriate protocols. The manager will also hire and supervise farm employees, and train undergraduate and graduate students in production and research procedures and methods such as data collection, statistical design, and analyses of experience. Further, the position will develop and analyze budgets, make modifications to maximize efficiency, and write reports and summaries relating to data and project activities.
The successful candidate will possess a high level of business acumen in addition to agriculture knowledge in the area of animal science, veterinary science, and animal husbandry including disease management, nutrition, lactation, behavior, breeding, and genetics. They will be self-motivated and be able to work independently along with working productively in a team setting. Effective written and interpersonal communication skills are critical to effectively interact with diverse staff, faculty, and students. The candidate will have a strong ability to direct and guide employees, be detail-oriented, and possess the ability to manage multiple, ongoing projects.

The incumbent must have the ability to work variable hours (depending on work load and certain periods of peak times and seasons), which will include weekends and holidays. The duties of this position require travel to different facilities/locations to carry out position responsibilities, and therefore the candidate must have access to transportation.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 9 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
