Dairy Center Manager

The Clemson University Piedmont Research and Education Center is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Unit Manager for the Lamaster Dairy Center, a Holstein and Jersey-based operation of approximately 200 milking cows. The successful applicant will develop and execute new and ongoing management plans for a state-of-the-art robotic milking system at the Lamaster Diary Center. The manager is responsible for labor and resource management, animal well-being, waste management, and milk safety compliance, and data management of cow records. 

The manger oversees all daily operations and is expected to act independently for daily management decisions, inform research and teaching faculty of situations that require actions that relate to ongoing projects, and coordinate with other farm units in the Piedmont REC. Other operational responsibilities include purchasing, maintenance of animals and equipment inventory, and monitor revenue and expenditures in the budget process. 

Staff management responsibilities include supervision and coordination of full-time, part-time, and student staff. The manager leads the staff at the Lamaster Dairy Center and is responsible for hiring, training assurance, assignment of responsibilities, and staff evaluations. 

Resource planning responsibilities include assisting with allocation of dairy resources for research and teaching faculty. Data management includes milk production and cow records for decision making. Development/operational plans and protocols for ongoing use of the DeLaval robotic milking system is required. Resource development and allocation is conducted in conjunction with the Piedmont REC Director.

The manager is expected to maintain and manage appropriate regulatory data and compliance status for waste management, animal well-being, and milk quality. Familiarity with software and data management associated with management and required reporting for purebred registration and DHIA compliance is necessary. 

Requirements include a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Animal, Dairy Science or related science field and 5 years of dairy-related experience.
