  1. Equine Selection and Evaluation

    ANIMSCI 3301 Equine Selection & Evaluation? No judging experience is required. The course is offered T/R in Plumb Hall 102 from 8:50-10:55 am. It is a two credit hour lab.The course offers hands on experience judging halter and almost every performance class there is. Students will get the opportunity to participate in a live judging contest at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. This is a great opportunity to get your feet wet judging and realize a potential career path or side hobby. It will allow you to really understand what judges are looking for, and how classes are judged and scored. If there are any questions about the class or enrollment, please email or contact your student advisor. 

  2. New Internship Requirements


    Students are no longer permitted to conduct and receive credit for an internship while not also simultaneously enrolled in a course related to the work for which they will earn credit (e.g., interning over the summer and taking ANIM SCI 3191 class the following Autumn). Failure to comply with this university requirement could risk loss of grants, funding, and scholarships, as well as expose the student to risk without access to university student services.  Moving forward, all students will be required to enroll in FAES 3191, 0 credit hours, during the term that you are completing your internship requirement.  In other words, if you are completing an internship over the summer, you will need to enroll in FAES 3191 during the summer term.  This courses is graded S/U and is 0 credit hours; although there is not a cost for tuition at 0 credit hours, there will be fees associated.  This does not take the place of enrolling in ANIM SCI 3191 or MEAT SCI 3191.  Students will need to enroll in the respective departmental 3191 course either at the time of internship experience or within a year afterwards for academic credit.

  3. SHIFT Mental Health Community

    Mental Health is very important to PVMA, and in an effort to better the mental health of PVMA we will be instituting a mental health community called SHIFT. SHIFT is a group that comes together to talk about any issues we may be facing such as, stress, anxiety, depression etc. as well as support each other when we’re struggling. The purpose of SHIFT is to shift your mental health in the right direction through providing a supportive mental health community, as well as, educating about mental health. You do not have to be pre-vet or a member of PVMA to come, ALL are welcome! Meetings will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 8-9pm on Carmen zoom.   6. Human Animal Interaction Business Panel

  7. ATI Dairy Summer Internship

    The OSU/ATI Dairy Farm has internship opportunities available at the farm outside Wooster, Ohio.  The internship will focus on the day to day application of management practices and the intern will rotate between four different jobs: Feeding, Milking, Calf and Heifer Raising, and Health and Reproduction.  The goal of the internship is to help the intern see how management decisions effect day to day operations, and also how worker performance effects management decisions.  You will also be exposed to management programs like PCDart, CowManager, and TMR Tracker, as well as working with other support personnel.

    Work schedule will be 1-7pm M-F and work morning (3:45am start) and afternoon (3:45pm start) chores every other weekend.

    Pay will be an Hourly Wage with a Max of 38 hours per week

  10. OPA Internship

    The Ohio Poultry Association (OPA) is a non-profit statewide trade organization representing more than 600 Ohio egg, chicken, and turkey farmers. Interns can expect to assist in the planning and execution of annual fundraisers, community outreach events, promotional activities, poultry producer education, and meetings, and work with various social media outlets to engage consumers and promote poultry products. Qualified students must currently be an enrolled college student pursuing a degree/major applicable to the Ohio poultry industry.   11. Dreams on Horseback Internship

    Dreams on Horseback, a horse-partnered learning center in Blacklick, Ohio, is looking for unpaid summer interns to assist with programs, provide horse care, and co-lead camp activities. The candidate should be energetic, able to lift 25 lbs., and be comfortable working with people with special needs. Training as a side-walker/leader in accordance with the requirements outlined by PATH International is mandatory and will be provided.   12. National Turkey Federation Internship

    The National Turkey Federation is currently accepting internship applications for the Summer 2020 semester in our Washington, D.C. office. They are seeking a recent graduate or a currently enrolled senior/ junior with a desire to learn about and advocate for the turkey industry. Pursuit of, or degree in, poultry science or animal science is strongly desired but not mandatory. The internship is paid, and assistance will be given to candidates to find housing.  

    This competitive internship strives to provide a strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory process, communications management and trade association structure. Interns will have the opportunity to:

  16. Colorado State University Master's Graduate Assisstant

    The Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University is seeking a Master’s Graduate Assistant starting in Summer 2020 in the area of dairy calf health, behavior, and management. The MS program will include both research and teaching. A portion of the MS funding is a teaching assistantship and requires a strong interest in and dedication to undergraduate teaching.

    Applicants must have earned a B.S. in Animal or Dairy Science or a similar field with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.  Experience with livestock research and undergraduate teaching is preferred, but not required.

  20. Beef Cattle Field Specialist

    There is now a position opening as a Beef Cattle Field Specialist. The individual in this position has the responsibility of developing and stewarding a tripartite partnership between Department of Animal Sciences, field-based Extension professionals, and representatives of the beef industry to respond to the ever-changing needs of beef producers. The roles will include planning and organizing learning experiences for producers, industry representatives, and the public that respond to contemporary industry issues and needs in the areas of animal care and welfare, marketing, and forage.   21. Dairy Records Management System Position

  22. National Dairy Promotion and Research Board Scholarship

    The application period for the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDPRB) scholarship is now open!  New this year, students will be expected to fill out an on-line application.  A link to the scholarship application can be found here.  

    Applications are being accepted for college scholarships that are awarded by America’s dairy farmers and importers through the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB). Eleven scholarships worth $2,500 each will be awarded, in addition to a $3,500 James H. Loper Jr. Memorial Scholarship to one outstanding recipient. NDB funds, in part, Dairy Management Inc. (DMI), which manages the national dairy checkoff program. Undergraduate students in their sophomore through senior year for the 2020-21 academic school year and majoring in one of the following fields are eligible: communications/public relations, journalism, marketing, business, economics, nutrition, food science and agriculture education. 

    Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, an interest in a career in a dairy-related discipline, and demonstrated leadership, initiative and integrity. Candidates must complete an application form, submit an official transcript of all college courses, and write a short statement describing their career aspirations, dairy-related activities and work experiences.

  23. Stark County Community Foundation Scholarship

    The Stark County Dairy Promoters Scholarship Fund based with the Stark Community Foundation, Canton, Ohio, has helped students since 1990. This year students will be vying for scholarships up to $5,000.

    Criteria for this scholarship include: 

    1. Students whose permanent address is in Stark County, Ohio 
    2. are pursuing 2 or 4 year college level study in dairy science, animal science, human nutrition, food science, or veterinary medicine; 
    3. have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale; 
    4. have demonstrated financial need. 

    Deadline for the applications to be submitted is April 15.

  24. Autumn Undergraduate Teaching Assistants

    As you are planning your autumn semester, consider applying for a position as an Undergraduate Teaching Assisstant! 

    Requirements to serve as a UTA include:

    • Third year rank or higher
    • Enrollment in the Department of Animal Sciences on the Columbus campus for at least one year
    • Successful completion of at least 3 of the following courses: 3100, 3110, 3130, 3140, 3150, 3160, 3170, or 3200
    • 3.0 GPA or better overall in the major
    • Completion of the UTA course assignment with a letter grade of a “B” or better

    Students accepted as UTA are required to complete an online UTA orientation and the Institutional Data Policy Training.  Students may apply for 1-2 credits of 3488 (repeatable up to 6 credits, a maximum of 3 credits applied toward graduation).

  25. Animal Science Community Alliance Application

    The Animal Science Community Alliance (ASCA) is an undergraduate leadership team involved in the recruitment of high school students, peer mentorship through the ANIM SCI 2700 course and the Cristo Rey Columbus HS Science Club, and planning and implementation of retention and community-building events like Back to School Bash and the ANSCI Winter Mixer.   26. REACH Training

    REACH© is the name of the OSU suicide prevention gatekeeper training program designed to help the OSU community prevent suicide by teaching faculty, staff, and students how to: Recognize warning signs, Engage with empathy, Ask about suicide, Communicate hope, and Help suicidal individuals access care and treatment. Students, staff, and faculty who attend this training will be certified suicide prevention gatekeepers and will receive an official certificate, as well as a pin, to display their achievements.

    Every semester, OSUSPP offers open trainings in which students, staff, and faculty can pre-register for and attend. OSUSPP has pre-chosen the dates, times, and locations for these open trainings.

    The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has renewed its partnership with and will continue to provide ALL students and faculty the opportunity to create a professional, online digital portfolio. In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.
