  1. EEOB 3498

    Upcoming course: EEOB 3498 Undergraduate Research in Behavioral Ecology in Fall 19.

    Call No 26433- 4 credit hours TR 11:10-12:30, plus two hours of lab (TBD by the students)

    This course aims to provide opportunities for undergraduates to conduct supervised independent research in behavioral ecology.
    The class projects will be on social ecology of animals. We will also learn applied statistics by using a statistical programming language. Finally, students will present their findings in a poster symposium at the end of the semester.

  2. 2019 Celebration of Students

    Join us at the 66th Annual College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Celebration of Students: CFAES Live! This event will shine a spotlight on the accomplishments of the CFAES students, staff and faculty. The celebration will be held in the Archie Griffin Ballroom in the Ohio Union on April 4 and begins at 5:15 pm. Parking is available for our guests and visitors in the Ohio Union parking garages. Suggested attire is business professional.

    Tickets are on sale now! Find a committee member or stop in Ag Admin room 100 or Kottman Hall room 210 to purchase your ticket for $15. For table reservations, contact Megan Bergman.208@osu.edu. Tables are available for $180 each for student organizations (10 tickets at $15 each plus a $30 reservation fee) and $200 each for departments/schools and guests (10 tickets at $15 each plus a $50 reservation fee).

  3. Buckeyes In Your Corner

    On March 20th from 6:30-7:45pm in Animal Science 111, the Meat Judging Team and Meat Science Club will offer another evening program of Buckeyes In Your Corner. This semester the main topic will involve “How to Manage Your Stress.” This is intended to focus on the various types of stress our students may go through using a group of panelists of various backgrounds (i.e. pre-vet students, time management, etc.) to share their ideas, experiences, and/or personal stories. Dinner will be offered for free from 6:30 to 7:00pm and the actual presentation will begin around 7:00pm. Check with your professors as some may be offering bonus points for attending. Hope to see you there!

  4. 2019 Lindsay Hill 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

    OSU's Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow are proud to host the 6th annual Lindsay Hill Memorial Tournament. The event will be held in the RPAC on March 23rd starting at 11. Teams will play a 3 on 3 game with one sub available for a 20 minute running clock. Team captains be sure to watch your emails for updates! Cost is $25 per team.

    This event is held each year in memory of agricultural communicator, Lindsay Hill who passed away in 2011 in a tragic car accident. Hill had a deep passion for Ohio State and Ohio State basketball. To honor the legacy of Hill, ACT hosts this annual event with proceeds from the tournament going toward the Lindsay Hill Memorial Endowment fund.

  5. Goat Yoga

    CHAIRE is holding a goat yoga event on March 21st  from 5:30pm-6:30pm or 7:00pm-8:00pm for students, faculty and staff in the Animal Science Building Arena! The cost for students is $10 and the cost for faculty/staff is $20. Pre-registration is required through chaire.osu.edu. Please bring your own mat/towel.

  7. Summer Barn Coordinator Postition

    DuBois Center, a faith-based camp and retreat center in southern Illinois, is seeking an enthusiastic team player to serve as Barn Coordinator for their summer horseback riding program. The ideal candidate will be at least 20 years old (21+ preferred) and have experience with barn management and riding instruction.

    Duties include managing our 20 horse herd, maintaining tack and facilities, ensuring the health and safety of both horses and campers, teaching basic riding lessons, training and supervising paid and volunteer staff engaged in horse-related activities, being the “lead” rider on trail rides, facilitating barn chores, assisting with overall staff training, and participating in general camp activities as time allows.   8. Dreams on Horseback Internship

    Dreams on Horseback, a horse-partnered learning center in Blacklick, Ohio, is looking for unpaid summer interns to assist with programs, provide horse care, and co-lead camp activities. The candidate should be energetic, able to lift 25 lbs., and be comfortable working with people with special needs. Training as a side-walker/leader in accordance with the requirements outlined by PATH International is mandatory and will be provided.   9. Internship at Waterman Dairy

    There are internship and job opportunities available at Waterman Dairy Farm for the summer of 2019. The OSU Waterman Dairy milks 100 registered Jerseys and raises approximately 165 replacement heifers. The farm facilitates research, gives tours to a wide range of ages, and allows for hands on college course experiences. Benefits to summer employment gives employees preference to limited fall semester positions. Free on farm housing can be provided to students who demonstrate good knowledge and work ethic. These students are held to a higher level of accountability and take on the role of student managers.

  10. HHYF Summer Position

    The Harness Horse Youth Foundation is seeking an assistant/instructor to travel during the months of late May, June, July and part of August. Person must be great with kids, capable of driving a truck/6-horse trailer, and self motivated! Harness racing background helpful but not required.

  11. Stauffer Farms Internship

    Stauffer Farms LLC is a 3800 cow dairy in northern St. Lawrence county NY.  They raise replacements and crop 3700 acres of corn silage and haylage.  The dairy facilities are modern, constructed over the span of 2009-2018. Wet calves are raised in a combination of calf barn and hutches. Bigger heifers are raised in retrofitted dairy barns, with some being custom raised. They have undergone a major expansion in 2017-2018 and are currently milking in twin, double 24 parallel parlors.

    The business approach of Stauffer Farms LLC is to promote efficiency in every way possible. They have aggressively invested capital to achieve this and are currently shipping over 1,600,000 lbs of milk per worker. They are also very comfortable investing in and learning technology as a way to increase efficiency and profitability. Unlike many large dairies, their labor force is predominantly local.  While in the past they have raised all forage and heifers, their latest expansion has been made possible by entering into forage and heifer raising agreements with neighboring farms.

  12. 2019 Dairy Farm Internship

    The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (OSU/ATI) is 2 year technical school located in Wooster, Ohio.  The OSU/ATI Dairy Farm is 100 cow Holstein and Jersey herd that exist to provide practical experience to students during the Fall and Spring semesters.  The OSU/ATI Dairy Farm strives to be a modern efficient and profitable dairy, with their main goal being to provide valuable educational experiences for their students.  In an effort to provide greater opportunities for learning they offer a Summer Internship that will be available from May through August.

    Their internship is suitable for students of any class rank we have even had a few graduate students in the past.  The internship will focus on the day to day application of management practices and the intern will rotate between four different jobs: Feeding, Milking, Calf and Heifer Raising, and Health and Reproduction. The goal of the internship is to help the intern see how management decisions effect day to day operations, and also how worker performance effects management decisions.  You will also be exposed to management programs like PCDart, CowManager, and TMR Tracker, as well as working with other support personnel.

    Pay will be an Hourly Wage with a Max of 38 hours per week

  13. Heimerl Farms Internship

    Heimerl Farms is a highly dedicated family run farming operation located 20 minutes northeast of Columbus in Johnstown, Ohio. Johnstown is home to not only their main office, but also the farm which started their swine enterprise many years ago. The main office is responsible for payroll, record keeping, computer operations, phone calls, feed ordering and processing, etc., which are necessary for their business. One major component vital to their operation located in Johnstown is their recently added on to feed processing facility. At this state of the art facility nearly 60% of our pigs are fed through the feed processed here each day. Although the main office is located in Johnstown, Heimerl Farms Ltd. has many swine operations located throughout the state. Even though they are most widely known for their Swine operations in Ohio, raising Holstein Cattle, plus farming several thousand acres makes Heimerl Farms a vital family oriented farming operation in the state.   15. Technology Support Analyst

    Dairy Records Mangement Systems (DRMS) is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide superior customer care and technical support from their Ames, IA office. DRMS, with offices at North Carolina State University and Iowa State University, provides monthly DHIA managment reports, on-farm software (PCDART), an the PocketDairy app to over 14,000 producers with 2.1M cows and to 500 nutritionists, veterinarians and industry consultants.

  16. In Vitro Fertilization Laboratory Position

  18. CWT Group Herdsman Position

    Central Ohio, 1,000 cow dairy farm looking for herdsman. Responsibilities include herd health, daily oversight of 2-3 employees, data entry (PC Dart), report generation, supply pricing and ordering, vet checks, hoof trimmer scheduling, coordinating of young livestock movement (to and from the grower), oversight of 2 employees at the calf facility, repo programs, and the possibility of breeding the herd.  Pay will be based on the amount of responsibility accepted, 55K to 70K.  There is the possibility of expanded responsibilities and pay (ie. operations manager) if so desired by an individual. Health insurance offered, matching simple IRA, uniforms, and paid vacation time.   20. Purdue Undergrad Summer Research Program

    Looking to pursue a career in the rapidly growing field of digital agriculture and data science? Check out this undergraduate summer research program in digital agriculture. This student centered, active-learning environment allows undergraduates to put data into action and communicate processes and results effectively. The program will run from mid-May through mid-August. Students interested in this program will benefit from strong faculty mentoring in small groups across many disciplines, $5,250 stipend for travel and living costs, optional academic course credit, and much more.   21. Roy A. Wallace Beef Improvement Federation Memorial Scholarship

    The Roy A. Wallace BIF Memorial Fund was established to honor the life and career of Roy A. Wallace. Mr. Wallace worked for Select Sires for 40 years, serving as vice-president of beef programs and devoted his life to beef-cattle improvement. He became involved with BIF in its infancy and was the only person to attend each of the first 40 BIF conventions. He loved what BIF stood for – an organization that brings together purebred and commercial cattle breeders, academia and breed associations, all committed to improving beef cattle. Wallace was honored with both the BIF Pioneer Award and BIF Continuing Service Award and co-authored the BIF 25-year history, Ideas into Action. This scholarship was established to encourage young men and women interested in beef cattle improvement to pursue those interests as Mr. Wallace did, with dedication and passion. Proceeds from the Roy A. Wallace Beef Improvement Federation Memorial Fund will be used to award scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled as fulltime students in pursuit of a degree related to the beef cattle industry. Criteria for selection will include demonstrated commitment and service to the beef cattle industry. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated a passion for the areas of beef breeding, genetics, and reproduction. Additional considerations will include academic performance, personal character, and service to the beef cattle industry. Two scholarships will be offered in the amount of $1250 each. One will be awarded to a student currently enrolled as an undergraduate and one will be awarded to a student currently enrolled in a Master of Science or Doctoral program.   22. Summer 2019 FLAS - Latin America

    The Center for Latin American Studies at Ohio State is seeking undergraduate applications for their Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program.

    The program offers summer and academic year fellowships for students who are pursuing a degree and need advanced training in language and area studies. Fellows receive a tuition and fee credit to subsidize enrollment in language and/or area studies coursework as well as receiving a stipend! Fellowships are open to students in any major who are interested in learning Portuguese, Quechua, or another language of Latin America (not including Spanish).

    The Animal Science Community Alliance (ASCA) is an undergraduate leadership team involved in the recruitment of high school students, peer mentorship through the ANIM SCI 2700 course and the Cristo Rey Columbus HS Science Club, and planning and implementation of retention and community-building events like B2SB and the ANSCI Winter Mixer.   24. ID SCOPE

    The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) launched the Infectious Diseases Student Community of Practice and Engagement (ID SCOPE) in partnership with the Battelle Center for Science, Engineering, and Public Policy, a center within the Glenn College. The ID SCOPE is open to all students, regardless of major or rank as they are trying to engage students from all disciplines given the broad nature of the infectious disease grand challenge/wicked problem. The ID SCOPE features weekly discussion and engagement sessions (Tuesdays, 6pm-7pm) on current infectious disease topics, linking various disciplines, public policy, human behavior and legal components. It also provides research opportunities as well as on-going student mentoring in “soft skill” development. See the attachment for more infomation. 

  25. Shades Club

    Shades Club is always looking to recruit new members! The purpose of Shades of Animal Sciences is to provide networking opportunities for multicultural students with a wide variety of interests, while focusing mainly on animals through education and service. Meetings are held on alternating Thursdays at 6:30pm in Plumb Hall 102. For more information, email the club or visit their facebook page! 

  26. Love Volunteering? Love Primates?

    At A.P.E.S. (American Primate Educational Sanctuary) volunteers take on a role similar to that of a keeper in a zoo. They clean the cages, prepare meals, do dishes, prepare enrichment, and other upkeep that may need done. It requires a lot of hard work and they look for dedicated volunteers to help out. Volunteers are required to come at least one designated day each week and work for about 3-4 hours. Volunteering with A.P.E.S. is a very rewarding educational experience.     The Mid-Ohio Foodbank is hoping to share some of their volunteer opportunities with students and faculty. They have a variety of projects available and would love some new volunteers!   28. University Mental Health Resources

    All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

    CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

    Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

    If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.

    Ohio State has switched to Handshake - a modern career development platform for students to explore career employment, internships and other opportunities, based on their interests, major and skills. FisherConnect and Symplicity (CareerEngine, Hireabuckeye, FutureLink, Buckeye Careers Network) have transitioned to Handshake.

    Handshake offers many exciting new features, including:

    The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has renewed its partnership with Portfolium.com and will continue to provide ALL students and faculty the opportunity to create a professional, online digital portfolio. In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.
