  1. Zoo-to-You!

    Pre-Veterinary Medical Association will be hosting Zoo-to-you on November 14th, 2018 at the Veterinary Medical Center auditorium. Snacks will be provided! Come see animals from the Columbus zoo brought to you!

  2. Agricultural Communication 5170

    The Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership is excited to offer a new course in International Development Theory and Practice (Agricultural Communication 5170) this coming Spring Semester, taught by Dr. Mary Rodriguez.

    In this course, students will take an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to understanding international development and their role as future practitioners. Dr. Rodriguez brings years of experience and knowledge in international agricultural development to this course.

  3. Veterinary School Workshop

    On Tuesday, November 13th from 6-8pm, the department of Animal Sciences will host a veterinary school workshop. Tips and Pointers on how to prepare for the questions, what to wear and how to manage the non-verbal communication, a mock interview scenario, the opportunity to network with current vet school students, and so much more will be offered at this event!   4. CSEES Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship Competition

    The Center for Slavic and East European Studies at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for its 2019-20 Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship competition under the U.S. Department of Education’s Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship program. Applications are being accepted for Summer 2019 and Academic Year 2019-20 fellowships for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who are pursuing a course of study requiring advanced foreign language and area studies training. Eligible languages taught at Ohio State include Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Turkish, and Uzbek, however, subject to approval, fellowships may be used for study at other U.S. institutions, to study abroad, or for other languages.

  5. Genetic Data Analytics Intern (2 positions)

    ABS-Global has two genetic internships open for summer 2019.

    The Intern will support ABS Global Beef or the ABS Global Dairy research and product development initiatives by supporting data related activities that include data mining, data pipeline development, and data analysis using various statistical and analytic tools. Additionally, the intern will generate information that will inform genetic strategies, genetic program development and custom genetic indices for the ABS proprietary genetic program.  This role will interact with individuals across the organization in support of these activities.

    The position will be located at ABS-Global headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. 

    Qualified candidates will possess a degree in Animal Science, Dairy Science, Genetics, Computer Science, Statistics or related field.  Strong analytical skills, familiarity with statistical packages (SAS, R, etc.), and experience with scripting or programming tools preferred.

    Graduate candidates (MS or PhD) are encouraged to attend along with individuals that plan to start a graduate program in Fall 2019.  Qualified undergraduates will also be considered.

  6. Fine Swine, LLC. Internship

    This internship will be from May 20th, 2019 through August 2nd, 2019. This year is going to be very competitive, so keep that in mind while filling out the application. They will be unable to provide housing this year but will be more than willing to help candidates from out of state find housing for the summer. Students will be working as gestation and farrowing technicians to understand the day to day operations of a commercial sow farm. They will also be having a research project and intern meetings to help stay on track and make sure students are learning all they can with us during the summer.

    Students will be paid their starting salary which comes to $1,000 before taxes on the 15th and 30th of every month.  On farm clothing, boots, shampoo, and body wash will be provided. Students must have their own transportation to get to the barn.

  7. College of Veterinary Medicine Clerical Position

    The College of Veterinary Medicine/Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department is looking for a clerical student assistant. Job duties include performing general office assignments including data entry, answering phones, sorting and distributing mail, preparing agendas and fliers, maintaining office supply inventory, organizing and purging files, running errands in University vehicles both on and off campus, and various projects as assigned.   8. Smithfield Hog Production Division Intern

    Smithfield is looking to fill a hog production internship positions. This intern will be assigned to a primary location where most of their ‘hands on’ experience will take place. The primary location will be discussed during the Internship application process and should be decided upon before the Intern starts work. Examples of the primary locations are the Sow Farm. In the primary location the intern will experience a ‘hands on’ experience in all the departments. For example in the Sow Farm Internship an Intern will rotate through the breeding and farrowing department. In the feed mill the departments include receiving, batching and loadout.   9. Pony Express Veterinary Hospital Position

    The Pony Express Veterinary Hospital is seeking a qualified, enthusiastic candidate to fill a part-time Equine Assistant position.   Applicants should possess the ability to manage horses of different disciplines, demonstrate excellent horse-handling skills, be familiar with equine anatomy to include joints/injection sites, have knowledge of various x-ray views, and possess basic knowledge of medications and dosages.   This is a physically demanding job and applicants should have the ability to carry up to 50 pounds for a short distance, lead horses at a fast-paced jog, and have the physical strength to hold up the horse legs during exams/treatment. 

    Applicants should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, possess effective communication skills, and consistently provide clients with attentive, courteous and informative services. Clerical and administrative skills are also desired.

  10. Cedar Rose Internship

    Cedar Rose Stallion Station is looking for a paid intern for the 2019 breeding season, running from January through mid-July. Cedar Ridge Stallion Station, as a branch of Casey Hinton Quarter Horses, is located in Whitesboro, TX (about an hour north of Dallas) and caters predominantly to the reining community. They provide all aspects of mare care, including artificial insemination, embryo transfers, foaling, and mare management. They will be standing five breeding stallions in 2019 including the $5 Million Sire, Magnum Chic Dream, and one of the Reining Triple Crown winner’s, Not Ruf At All. They also manage close to 150 ranch mares, recips, yearlings, and weanlings.

    Many of the necessary skills can be taught and/or honed, but a general knowledge of breeding is required and good horsemanship on the ground is a necessity. Salary will correlate with amount of knowledge. Housing will be provided, which includes all utilities and consists of a shared common area, kitchen, and bathroom, but a separate bedroom.

  11. Vita Plus Dairy Nutrition and Management Fellowship

    Applications are now being accepted for the Vita Plus Dairy Nutrition and Management Fellowship at Michigan State University. As the dairies in our market area get more sophisticated, the required skills to service their needs as a nutritional consultant increase as well. Their field nutritionists are highly skilled and technologically savvy – built greatly on experience.

    The student will attend classes at Michigan State for three semesters and gain industry experience with Vita Plus on approximately a 35% full-time equivalency basis during the 16-month period. The student will also supervise a practical field research project.

  12. Hilmar Dairy Farm Internship

    The Hilmar Dairy Internship program is accepting applications now through December 10, 2018 at 5 pm PST. The internship is designed for college sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in dairy science, dairy management, animal science or vet science. They are looking for motivated, hard-working students interested in developing the skills to become herdsperson or dairy manager in California or Texas.

    The Hilmar Dairy Internship differs from other dairy internships. There are multiple local dairies hosting interns at the same time. Interns participate in group programs and social activities. Interns will have the opportunity to visit the other farms and learn from each other's experiences. Interns explore a wide variety of dairy skills and techniques that may include milking, feeding, cow comfort, breeding, heifer and calf management, computer systems, and more.

  13. Part-Time/Full-Time Kennel Technician Position

    Animal Medical & Emergency Hospital is looking for help with kennel work, cleaning, patient care, and assisting with client/patient visits.   16. Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds Internship

    Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds, LLC is a modern, thoroughbred facility located just 15 minutes from historic Saratoga Racecourse. They are currently accepting applications for the Breeding Internship program. The internships will allow students to actively participate in all aspects of a commercial thoroughbred operation. They’ve created a great learning environment for those students who are sincere in their desire to secure employment in the horse industry and/or pursue post baccalaureate education in veterinary studies or graduate school.   17. 2019 Fred Stout Experience Awards

    Persons who have a strong desire to pursue a career in managing and/or marketing Registered Jersey™ cattle are encouraged to apply for the 2019 Fred Stout Experience awards.

    The awards are presented annually in memory of Fred J. Stout Sr., Mt. Carmel, Ill., a lifelong Jersey breeder and member of the Jersey Marketing Service staff from 1978 to 1997 who believed that the best learning experiences happen in the everyday world.

    Awards will be made for two paid internships, one with Jersey Marketing Service, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and the other an on-farm, customized experience on a Jersey dairy operation. The awards, provided by a permanent endowment established by friends and colleagues of Fred Stout, will pay for housing, travel and related activities required by the cooperating employer up to the maximum amount of the scholarship award.

    Applicants must have completed their high school education. To apply, submit a one-page résumé listing previous work experience, skills and other qualifications, plus a separate cover letter stating your ambitions, goals and career aspirations, including plans for achieving them. The letter must also explain how and why the Fred Stout Experience will be of benefit in achieving future goals. A summary of involvement with and interest in Registered Jersey™ cattle is required. Specify which experience (marketing internship, on-farm internship) is preferred, or indicate if you are interested in both opportunities.

    Two letters of support are required, one from an active breeder of Registered Jersey™ cattle, excluding immediate family members; and the other from a teacher, mentor or past employer. These must be mailed directly by the supporters to the AJCA office.

  18. Paid Farming Apprenticeships in Rockport, Maine

    Maine Coast Heritage Trust is offering two apprenticeships at Aldermere Farm for individuals pursuing careers in agriculture. The lessons they learn go beyond the logistics of farm operations. During their time at the farm apprentices engage with the community through educational agricultural programs, which teach about the local food system—food production, processing, distribution, consumption and waste management – through the lens of environmental conservation and community well-being. Each apprenticeship will include a monthly stipend, benefits, shared housing, training and supervision. The duration of an apprenticeship may last from 6 months up to 2 years depending on an apprentice’s needs.


    An apprentice can choose to specialize in general farm operations or cattle management. Both will gain experience managing all facets of a 136-acre property and beef farm operation, including pasture, field and woodlot management; building and equipment upkeep; the logistics of hay and baleage production and rotational grazing; and developing annual plans to manage a herd’s health, reproduction, and nutrition. Apprentices also help lead ag programs for youth, like the Aldermere Achievers 4-H Club and the Farm Hands after-school program. Previous experience farming and educating youth and/or adults are preferred.

  29. Rhinebeck Equine Veterinary Assistant Position

  31. Arlosy Inc. Farm Hand Position

    Arlosy Inc. is looking to fill an open position; the position will assist in milking 120 Holstein cows, feeding cows, feeding calves, and field work. Milking is done in a double 8 parallel parlor with high and low lactating groups and a sick pen. Feeding cows requires experience driving a tractor and operating a TMR mixing cart. Field work depends on the season, but they grow about 1,200 acres of crops of soybeans, corn, wheat, and hay. All training will be provided. Schedule is flexible with proper communication to supervisor. Employee must have reliable transportation, housing, and a valid driver's license.     Washington State Universtiy is looking to hire a Dairy Operations Manager. The Dairy Farm Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the Department of Animal Sciences Dairy herd (Knott Dairy Center). The manager is responsible for the planning, timing, and directing of personnel resources and facilities for major milking cow herd and replacement heifer events (calving, breeding, milking, nutrition and feeding, health care, forage utilization, and pasture schedules, milk and livestock sales). This position coordinates resources, time and facility issues, communications and organizational issues to coordinate multiple research, extension , and class usages.   34. Administrative Assistant and Youth Program Coordinator

    Ohio Cattleman is looking to fill a position. The position requires excellent customer service and phone skills. It involves general office work, including managing various computer databases, receptionist duties, shipping materials and mailings, ordering supplies, and coordinating storage and display materials.   41. Undergrad Lab Volunteer

    The College of Veterinary Medicine, Parasitology Section is looking for an upbeat, positive, and responsible undergraduate who might have an interest in veterinary parasites and would be willing to volunteer in the VM III teaching laboratory.  The volunteer will learn about the parasites and the techniques we use in the laboratory (no prior experience required; we will train).  They have two openings Spring 2019 semester, generally M, T and Thursday until the end of March.  The laboratory helper is required to assist with the lab setup (anywhere from 11 am to 12:10 pm) and take down the labs (breakdown 4:45-5:20 pm).  The helper can participate in the laboratories (1 to 5 pm) if they wish.

  42. Tyson Foods Beyond Fresh Meat Short Course

    AMSA is excited to once again partner with Tyson Foods to host the 3rd Annual Beyond Fresh Meats Short Course in Springdale, AR. Students will work with academic peers and industry professionals to receive hands on experience in Tyson's state of the art industry pilot plant and test kitchen facilities utilizing the content covered in lectures. The course will run from February 22-24, 2019.

    Registration will open in November through a link posted on the AMSA website under the Events and Education tab. Student lodging and meals will be provided and registration will be $50 per student. The course will be limited to 50 undergraduate/graduate students who are AMSA student members. Registration will be open to two students from each university initially and then additional students may be permitted based on availability. The course will also be available to university professors/faculty with registration being $50/professional plus the cost of transportation and lodging. Contact Rachel Adams with any questions.

    HOSA-Future Health Professionals at The Ohio State University is a great way for students to network and compete internationally in their chosen field of study.  HOSA is an established international organization that empowers students through leadership in the global health community.   44. ID SCOPE

    The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) launched the Infectious Diseases Student Community of Practice and Engagement (ID SCOPE) in partnership with the Battelle Center for Science, Engineering, and Public Policy, a center within the Glenn College. The ID SCOPE is open to all students, regardless of major or rank as they are trying to engage students from all disciplines given the broad nature of the infectious disease grand challenge/wicked problem. The ID SCOPE features weekly discussion and engagement sessions (Tuesdays, 6pm-7pm) on current infectious disease topics, linking various disciplines, public policy, human behavior and legal components. It also provides research opportunities as well as on-going student mentoring in “soft skill” development. See the attachment for more infomation.

  46. Undergraduate Teaching Assistants Positions

  47. Experience OSU for a Day Hosts Needed!

    Do you enjoy sharing your passion for Ohio State with others? Would you be willing to show high school students what it is like to be a Buckeye? The "Experience OSU for a Day" (EOFD) Program allows prospective students to get a feel for what college is really like. These students visit CFAES frequently, and we are in need of volunteers to show these students around campus when they come to visit. If you were a host last semester, we need your new schedule!

    EOFD Hosts volunteer to have prospective high school students shadow them from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. for 1-2 weekdays each semester. Hosting is very flexible and can be adjusted to fit your schedule. Hosts are encouraged to take their shadow(s) to class, the Oval, the Union, a room in Nosker House, and to eat lunch at Parker Dairy Store (lunch is free for the host and shadow). Hosting is open to any CFAES student who has completed at least one semester of classes at the Columbus campus. To sign up, simply fill out this form and email it to Katie Share at share.9@osu.edu.   48. Towers Agricultural Honorary Accepting applications for 2018-2019 Class

    Towers Agricultural Honorary was founded in 1952 by Allan W. Smith, in an effort to establish an organization to honor individuals in agricultural fields demonstrating high levels of scholarship, strong leadership skills, and high moral character.  Towers is comprised of a variety of majors and backgrounds within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University.  Any student in The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences who has completed at least three academic semesters, or any transfer student who has completed one academic semester in agriculture and is at least a first semester sophomore, has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.00 and has proven himself/herself outstanding in at least one extracurricular activity is eligible for membership.  Throughout the year, Towers' members are involved in a variety of group activities and events. A couple of our annual events include our Red Cross blood drives and an annual Member/Mentor recognition reception.

  49. Love Volunteering? Love Primates?

    At A.P.E.S. (American Primate Educational Sanctuary) volunteers take on a role similar to that of a keeper in a zoo. They clean the cages, prepare meals, do dishes, prepare enrichment, and other upkeep that may need done. It requires a lot of hard work and they look for dedicated volunteers to help out. Volunteers are required to come at least one designated day each week and work for about 3-4 hours. Volunteering with A.P.E.S. is a very rewarding educational experience.   51. University Mental Health Resources

    All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

    CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

    Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

    If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.
