The application form for the 2016 Outstanding Senior Award is now available. This is the premier award granted to seniors in CFAES. To qualify for consideration, applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA at the time of application and be graduating during the 2016 calendar year. Selections are made based on the applicant's record of scholarship, leadership, professional and personal growth and involvement in the community, both within OSU and beyond. The deadline for applications is December 16th. All applications will be reviewed in January. A group of students  will be selected, from all who apply, to interview with the selection committee in February. The group of Outstanding Seniors will be recognized at the CFAES Recognition Program on April 7, 2016.  Contact Dr. Marilyn Trefz should you have questions.

Join the Department of Animal Sciences in the First Annual Buckeye Classic Meat Judging Contest, Thursday, November 5 from 6-8:15pm. Students can judge individually or as a team of four (clubs and organizations welcome) from 6-7pm with dinner following directly afterward. This event is free of charge and will be held in 117 Animal Sciences. Awards will be announced Saturday, November 7 at 1pm during the Dept. of Animal Science tailgate event. For those interested in judging, please contact Lyda Garcia so that she may have enough food prepared for the dinner.

Vita Plus has posted an opening for their Summer 2016 internship. The objectives of this internship is to introduce an undergraduate student to the activities of a dairy nutritionist and the feed industry. This internship will include time with Vita Plus dairy consultants and technical support staff, dairy producers, and feed production team. The student will be involved in research projects on dairy farms, and work alongside both office and field dairy staff on a variety of projects. This internship will take place at the Vita Plus headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. Check out the flyer for more details. Applications are due November 15.

The National Pork Board is seeking candidates to apply for the 2016 internship program. To learn about these exciting opportunities, please see the attached descriptions.  There are positions available in Producer Services, Communication, Science and Technology, and Domestic Marketing. Interviews will take place in December. The Pork Board is funded through a market checkoff collection on sales of market swine in the United States. National Pork Board is effectively serving U.S. pork producers through the development of educational programs, coordination of research projects, and increasing the demand for pork meat in domestic and international markets. Tyson Foods would like to announce that it is accepting applications for its R&D Summer Internship program. The program has 8 positions available, open to current year Juniors and Seniors as well as Graduate students majoring in Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science / Poultry Science (with a meat focus), and Grain / Bakery Science as well as 1 internship for Food Processing, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineers (Downers Grove, IL). Position opening for a Director of Public Relations and Consumer Marketing program at the Ohio Beef Council. Staff responsibilities include the development and implementation of beef checkoff-funded programs in the areas of consumer advertising, retail, foodservice, nutrition and veal designed to increase consumer demand for beef and veal products. The position also includes some OCA program coordination. Cattle industry background is strongly preferred.

November 30 is the last day to apply! 

The application deadline has been extended for the 2016 International Stockmen's Educational Foundation Travel Fellowships! In an effort to enhance the educational experiences of college students and strengthen the leaders of tomorrow's livestock and meat industries, the International Stockmen's Educational Foundation (ISEF) awards International Livestock Congress travel fellowships each year  to senior-level undergraduates and graduate students currently enrolled in accredited colleges or universities.
The International Livestock Congress USA, managed through a partnership of the ISEF and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, is a unique global event that brings leaders from the livestock and meat industries together to discuss issues of international importance that affect the future of animal agriculture. Students will participate in the event March 2 - 4, 2016 in Houston, Texas that will include a student career workshop, the International Livestock Congress USA, and associated tours and activities.
Fellowships include airfare, ground transportation, hotel and scheduled meals. Scholastic achievement, leadership experiences and professional references are all part of the stringent qualifying requirements for this fellowship.

Applications must be submitted online (Student Travel Fellowship Program Application) and are being accepted through November 30, 2015.  Guidelines for submitting applications may be found here: 2016 Application Guidelines. Three professional reference forms must also be submitted by the deadline (Professional Reference).

All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.

The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has renewed its partnership with Portfolium.com and will continue to provide ALL students and faculty the opportunity to create a professional, online digital portfolio. In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.

You should have already received your Portfolium invitation with the subject: “Access your CFAES Portfolium.” The email contains a link to activate your free verified account within the CFAES network using your Ohio State credentials.  If you missed the initial email, you can also join by using the Portfolium Resource Page.
