  2. Independent Research Course-EEOB 3494

    EEOB 3494- Entering Independent Research

    This course is designed to prepare undergraduate students to become independent researchers. Related topics include experimental, quasi-experimental, non-experimental designs, hypothesis testing, sampling, and research ethics. Formal and applied statistics, data analysis using SAS programming language, poster, presentation and graphing tools will also be given throughout the course. As research funding is an essential part of conducting experimental studies, students will also be guided through the process of grant writing. This 3 credit hour course is held Thursday 11:10 am - 12:30 pm in Baker Systems 285. 

    Students will also engage in outreach activities with grade school children to teach biodiversity and conservation.

  3. Small Ruminant and Pseudo Ruminant Production Class

    Small Ruminant and Pseudo Ruminant Production and Management (ANIMSCI 4004.01) and the Small Ruminant Production Lab (ANIMSCI 4004.02) will be held as scheduled in Columbus during the Spring 2020 semester. Our Department recently moved our sheep operations to Wooster, merging our Don Scott and Wooster sheep flocks.  Holding pens at Don Scott, Waterman Farm and the department’s arena in the Animal Sciences building will be utilized with sheep transported on a regular basis from Wooster, to ensure students continue to have hands-on learning experiences with small ruminants in Columbus. The Department of Animal Sciences recognizes the integral role sheep and goats play in our departmental teaching program and will ensure students continue to have that learning experience.

     

  4. Sloth Yoga

     The Human-Animal Interactions Club is hosting Sloth Yoga on November 6 in the Ag Admin Auditorium. Due to the large amount of interest this event recieved last year, there is pre-registration required. The event costs $15 to attend. The flyer for the event can be found here

  5. Livestock Judging Team Competed at Congress

    Ohio State Animal Science students competed in the 53rd All American Quarter Horse Congress Collegiate Judging Contest. The team walked away as Top 10 and Top 15 Finalist in Halter Judging, Performance Judging, and Reasons Awards. More information about the team and how to join can be found here

  6. Poultry Science Club Turkey Order

    Poultry Science Club is taking orders for their 69th annual Turkey Sale until November 13th! The turkeys are free-range, raised antibiotic free, and fed a vegetable diet.   7. Merck Animal Health

    Merck Animal Health is offering a variety of internships in 2020.  Juniors and seniors are invited to apply to any internship they are interested in.  The internship postings are continually updating with new opportunities daily, so please check back regularly if you do not see one that fits.  If you have any questions, please reach out.

  8. ABS Global Internship

    ABS Global has a variety of internships currently available. There are positions open available to tech, university, and college students.

    Some available internships are Beef Marketing and Sales Intern, Technical and Genetic Services, Genetic Management Serives, and Markteting Copywriter.

  9. World Wide Sires Internship

    World Wide Sires is looking for a creatie, motivated, and detail-oriented Summer 202 Marketing and Averstising Intern. They are looking for an agriculture communicator who is wanting to gain experience in marketing and public relations. 

    This internship will be tailored to the applicants' strengths and weaknesses. Interns may have responsibilities such as creating advertisements and flyers, create content for social media accounts, and gather testimonials, photos and videos to support the advertising campaign.

  10. CentralStar Cooperative Internships

    CentralStar Cooperative is looking to fill nine internship positions for Summer 2020. CentralStar is looking for two DHI Laboratory Interns, six Artificial Insemination Specialist Interns, and a Research and Development Intern.

  11. Topnotch Showstock Internship

    Topnotch Livestock is a show wether goat and lamb production firm. Topnotch Livestock utilizes IVF and AI to access elite genetics. Approximately half of their herd will be kidded out by the start of the internship (early January).  Most of the marketing is done in March, and a show string will be campaigned in April and May.   There could be an opportunity to develop into a partnership after the internship, for the right person.

  12. Hilmar Dairy Internship

    The Hilmar Dairy Internship program is accepting applications now through December 10, 2019 at 5 pm PST. The internship is designed for college sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in dairy science, dairy management, animal science or vet science. They are looking for motivated, hard-working students interested in developing the skills to become herdsperson or dairy manager in California or Texas. 

    The Hilmar Dairy Internship differs from other dairy internships. There are multiple local dairies hosting interns at the same time. Interns participate in group programs and social activities.  Interns will have the opportunity to visit the other farms and learn from each other's experiences. Interns explore a wide variety of dairy skills and techniques that may include milking, feeding, cow comfort, breeding, heifer and calf management, computer systems, and more.

  13. Parasitology Student Worker

    The College of Veterinary Medicine, Parasitology Section is looking for an upbeat, positive, and responsible undergraduate who might have an interest in veterinary parasites and would be willing to work in the VM III teaching laboratory.  The student worker will learn about the parasites and the techniques we use in the laboratory.  We have one or two openings Spring 2020 semester, generally Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from January until the end of March.  The laboratory helper is required to assist with the lab setup (anywhere from 11 am to 12:10 pm) and take down the labs (breakdown 4:45-5:30 pm).  The helper can participate in the laboratories (1 to 5 pm) if they wish.  

    Please send a brief cover letter/email indicating your interest and attach your resume and Spring 2020 course schedule.  Deadline November 8, 2019.   Email to Bremer.2@osu.edu.  You will be contacted you for a follow up interview.  Course schedules and availability play a key role in the selection process.

  14. Fort Christopher's Thoroughbreds Breeding Intern

    Breeding Season is approaching for horses and Fort Christopher's Thoroughbreds is recruiting interns!

    This internship will allow students to actively participate in all aspects of a commercial thoroughbred operation. Fort Christopher's Thoroughbreds has created a great learning environment for students who are sincere in their desire to secure employment in the horse industry and/or pursue post baccalaureate education in veterinary studies or graduate school. The internship generally runs from Jan. 15th - April/May. This is a paid internship opportunity with housing provided.

  15. NAAB Doak Graduate Fellowship

    The National Association of Animal Breeders Doak Graduate Fellowship is a unqiue opprotunity for individuals planning to pursue a career in the bovine genetic improvement industry to earn a Master of Science degree in bovine genetics or bovine male reproduction physiology. The fellowship is open to any candidate who has completed a four year degree and seeks an advanced degree at a major US university with an approved research project. 

    The application is due December 2, 2019 for fall 2020 enrollment.

  16. Seaboard Foods

    Seaboard Foods produces premium pork products connected every step of the way from before the farm to beyond the plate. They are looking to hire studentss graduating Fall 2019 or May 2020 in Trainee programs. Trainee programs are designed specifically for each department to help students gain the skills they need.   17. Dairy Unit Manager

    University of Florida is looking to hire a Dairy Unit Manager. The position will entail coordinating activites for the research program, managing employees and students working at the Dairy Unit, and assisting with finances and budgeting. 

    The ideal applicant will have a Bachelor's in Dairy Science or closely related field. The applicant should also have experience managing a dairy production enterprise and experience in dairy science research. Strong customer service skills and a motivitional leading style is required.

  18. Ohio Cattlemen's Association Full-Time Position

    The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association and the Ohio Beef Council are accepting applications for the following full-time position.

    Director of Communications and Ohio Cattleman Managing Editor - The position is responsible for all OCA internal and external communications. Internal communications includes production of the Ohio Cattleman magazine, member e-newsletters and graphic design work for association programs.  External communications includes distribution of press releases, regular updating of association websites, and management of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts.  Similar communications functions are also required for the Ohio Beef Council. Position requires excellent writing skills and publication layout and design skills including a high proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop. Cattle industry background is preferred.

  19. The Winery Comedy Tour

    Nationally recognized comedians travel the country tasting local wine and making new fans! This new comedy circuit brings comedy to folks for a fraction of what comedy clubs demand. Come out for a night of hilarious comedy and great local wines.

  20. MESMERICA 360 Columbus

    Mesmerica is a visual music journey that brings the mesmerizing music of Grammy-nominated composer and percussionist, James Hood together with visually-hypnotic, 3D animated art curated from artists around the world to create an immersive experience designed to transcend time, relax, soothe, and also stimulate your mind and senses.

    There are three show times, 5:30pm, 7:00pm, and 8:30pm on Friday, November 8th. The event is held at COSI Planetarium.

  21. Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

    Information and the application are available through:  https://ansci.osu.edu/undergraduate/get-involved/undergraduate-teaching-assistant.  Applications are not due until DEC 1, but students are encouraged to apply early to plan their spring schedule accordingly.  

    To serve as a UTA you must

    • Be a third year rank or higher,
    • Enrolled in the Department of Animal Sciences on the Columbus campus for at least one year
    • Have successfully completed of at least 3 of the following courses: 3100, 3110, 3130, 3140, 3150, 3160, 3170, or 3200,
    • Have a 3.0 GPA or better overall in the major, and
    • Completed the UTA course assignment with a letter grade of a “B” or better

  24. University Mental Health Resources

    All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

    CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

    Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

    If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.

  25. CFAES Mental Health Counselor

    Ohio State has switched to Handshake - a modern career development platform for students to explore career employment, internships and other opportunities, based on their interests, major and skills. FisherConnect and Symplicity (CareerEngine, Hireabuckeye, FutureLink, Buckeye Careers Network) have transitioned to Handshake.

    Handshake offers many exciting new features, including:

    • Relevant feed of job and internship opportunities
    • News feed containing the latest information from career services offices and favorite employers
    • Resources specifically matching students interests

    Student accounts are preloaded and can be accessed at http://handshake.osu.edu/, using their name.# and password. Students will need to complete their profiles with details, such as work experiences, skills, interests and organizations. Next, students can explore the many resources and tools that are available in Handshake.

    The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has renewed its partnership with Portfolium.com and will continue to provide ALL students and faculty the opportunity to create a professional, online digital portfolio. In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.
