  1. Fred Stout Experience Awards

    Students with a strong desire to pursue a career in managing and/or marketing Registered Jersey™ cattle are encouraged to apply for the 2016 Fred Stout Experience awards. Two awards will be offered: (1) a minimum 10-week summer marketing internship with Jersey Marketing Service, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and (2) a minimum 10-week on-farm, customized internship in Jersey herd management. Financial support is provided by a permanent endowment created by friends and colleagues of Fred Stout. Applications and letters of support must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, December 1 and addressed to Fred Stout Experience, American Jersey Cattle Association, 6486 E.   2. Outstanding Senior Award

    The application form for the 2016 Outstanding Senior Award is now available. This is the premier award granted to seniors in CFAES. To qualify for consideration, applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA at the time of application and be graduating during the 2016 calendar year. Selections are made based on the applicant's record of scholarship, leadership, professional and personal growth and involvement in the community, both within OSU and beyond. The deadline for applications is December 16th. All applications will be reviewed in January. A group of students  will be selected, from all who apply, to interview with the selection committee in February. The group of Outstanding Seniors will be recognized at the CFAES Recognition Program on April 7, 2016.  Contact Dr. Marilyn Trefz should you have questions.

  3. Legan Livestock & Grain Internship

    Legan Livestock & Grain is a 3,000 sow breed to wean family farm producing 80,000 weaned pigs annually located in central Indiana. One third of their weaned pigs are sold to customers (farmers) in Indiana & Illinois and the rest are co-owned with two other partners in Indiana. They also crop farm approximately 1,000 acres of corn and soybeans. LLG is searching for interns to compliment their farm.   4. Dairy Sales Consultant Intern

    Cargill Animal Nutrition provides customized animal productivity solutions to commercial producers across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Rather than focusing on standardized nutrition products, we create customized ingredient blends and management programs to fit each situation. Our research-proven management and nutrition technologies suit the specific needs of our diverse array of customers. And our animal nutrition and management experts offer the scope and creativity to serve the unique needs of each customer.

    As a Consultant, you will be responsible for interacting with clients and prospective customers, helping them understand how Cargill can provide solutions for them and improve their profitability. Consultants typically specialize in expertise areas, which include dairy, beef, swine, and retail sales to owners of companion animals.   5. Seasonal Grazing Job

    Seasonal, rotational grazing dairy farm seeking individuals interested in all aspects of grass farming. Duties would include milking, calf raising, herd management, sheep and hog care, and other farm-related jobs. Clean, energetic, non-smoking and conscientious individuals who have an ability to work well with others, are needed. Internships/apprenticeships will be considered with available housing.   6. INTERNSHIPS/APPRENTICESHIPS IN FARMSTEAD CREAMERY

    100% grass-fed raw milk creamery has positions open for an assistant. Duties would include assisting with cheese make, aging and plant sanitation. Clean, energetic, non-smoking, and conscientious individuals who have an ability to work well with others are needed. For internships, a minimum of 3 months is required and housing is available. Interested applicants can reach out to Matthew Brichford.

  7. Alltech Student Ambassador

    The Alltech Young Scientist (AYS) program features the world’s largest agriscience competition. It offers the brigh-test scientific thinkers from colleges and universities across the globe an opportunity to compete at the highest level and be rewarded for their innovative research. Students are encouraged to join Alltech in pursuit of solutions in animal health and nutrition, crop science, agriculture analytical methods, food chain safety and traceability, human health and nutrition and other agriscience-related sectors, while also gaining valuable experience with the company’s global team. Positions are available for undergraduates and graduate students. Please view the attached application and submit before December 31.

  8. National Pork Board Internships

    The National Pork Board is seeking candidates to apply for the 2016 internship program. To learn about these exciting opportunities, please see the attached descriptions.  There are positions available in Producer Services, Communication, Science and Technology, and Domestic Marketing. Interviews will take place in December. The Pork Board is funded through a market checkoff collection on sales of market swine in the United States. National Pork Board is effectively serving U.S. pork producers through the development of educational programs, coordination of research projects, and increasing the demand for pork meat in domestic and international markets.   11. Commercial Dairy Specialist

    ADM Alliance Nutrition, Inc., a fully-owned subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland Company and a leader in the commercial feed industry is seeking a qualified dairy leader in our Ohio sales territories.  This position will provide dairy technical leadership to customers within the region.  Requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s Degree, dairy industry knowledge, working knowledge of proper management and feeding practices, computer literacy and the ability to become proficient in feed formulation/ration balancing, and strong agricultural business aptitude. Prior sales experience and a proven track record developing new accounts, a plus.  The successful candidate will have superior verbal and written communication skills, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.   12. Grad Student Swine Teaching Position

    This is a unique opportunity for an energetic, intelligent student to work on either a Master’s or PhD degree at Iowa State University, while being employed as Iowa State University Swine Teaching Farm Manager.

  13. Edward S. “Beanie” Drake Scholarship

    Established in 1950, the purpose of the “Beanie” Drake Scholarship is to provide funds to enable deserving students to participate in campus activities when need might otherwise make it difficult or impossible for them to do so. The scholarship is funded by donations from students and student organizations of The Ohio State University and alumni affiliated with the “Beanie” Drake Scholarship. Upon review of all applications, selected candidates will receive an individual interview from the “Beanie” Drake Scholarship Board of Directors. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of current participation and service to campus and community, leadership potential, financial need, and academic achievement.

    Operation Groundswell is a non-profit organization that runs international volunteering programs, focusing on social justice issues and working alongside local activists, organizations, and communities.   18. Towers Agricultural Honorary

    Towers Agricultural Honorary is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2016 class. It was founded in 1952 by Allan W. Smith, in an effort to establish an organization to honor individuals in agricultural fields demonstrating high levels of scholarship, strong leadership skills, and high moral character.  The Honorary is comprised of a variety of majors and backgrounds within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University.  Any student in The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences who has completed at least three academic semesters, or any transfer student who has completed one academic semester in agriculture and is at least a first semester sophomore, has earned an accumulative point hour ratio of 3.00 and has proven himself/herself outstanding in at least one extracurricular activity is eligible for membership.  Throughout the year, Towers' members are involved in a variety of group activities and events. A few of our annual events include quarterly Red Cross blood drives, our Member/Mentor recognition reception, and a Winter Walk throughout the Chadwick Arboretum.

  19. Student Travel Fellowship Program

    November 30 is the last day to apply! 

    The application deadline has been extended for the 2016 International Stockmen's Educational Foundation Travel Fellowships! In an effort to enhance the educational experiences of college students and strengthen the leaders of tomorrow's livestock and meat industries, the International Stockmen's Educational Foundation (ISEF) awards International Livestock Congress travel fellowships each year  to senior-level undergraduates and graduate students currently enrolled in accredited colleges or universities.
    The International Livestock Congress USA, managed through a partnership of the ISEF and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, is a unique global event that brings leaders from the livestock and meat industries together to discuss issues of international importance that affect the future of animal agriculture. Students will participate in the event March 2 - 4, 2016 in Houston, Texas that will include a student career workshop, the International Livestock Congress USA, and associated tours and activities.
    Fellowships include airfare, ground transportation, hotel and scheduled meals. Scholastic achievement, leadership experiences and professional references are all part of the stringent qualifying requirements for this fellowship.

    Applications must be submitted online (Student Travel Fellowship Program Application) and are being accepted through November 30, 2015.  Guidelines for submitting applications may be found here: 2016 Application Guidelines. Three professional reference forms must also be submitted by the deadline (Professional Reference).

  20. University Mental Health Resources

    All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

    CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

    Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

    If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.

  21. CFAES Mental Health Counselor

    Did you know that CFAES has hired a counselor to support the needs of their students' mental health?  Dr. Wirt holds counseling sessions in Ag Admin Room 100 four days a week and is in Lincoln Tower on Wednesday. See the attached if you’re interested in making an appointment.

  22. Portfolium Resource Page

    The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences has renewed its partnership with Portfolium.com and will continue to provide ALL students and faculty the opportunity to create a professional, online digital portfolio. In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.

    You should have already received your Portfolium invitation with the subject: “Access your CFAES Portfolium.” The email contains a link to activate your free verified account within the CFAES network using your Ohio State credentials.  If you missed the initial email, you can also join by using the Portfolium Resource Page.
