Hurricane María completely devastated the island of Puerto Rico, leaving everyone without electricity and little to no communication at all. Most of the main roads are blocked, leaving many people unable to access other parts of the island and the food and water resources are scarce. Although the hurricane damage to Houston and parts of Florida was extensive, it is going to take months to just get the power back on in Puerto Rico. Some current students are still waiting to hear from their families, which as you can imagine, is very distressing. For those with a desire to help, the Puerto Rican Student Association will be hosting a fundraiser “United for Puerto Rico” on Monday, October 2nd at the Ohio Union from 9am to 5pm. If anyone is interested in directly helping the association put on the event, please contact Liane Davila-Martin.
