Looking for an excuse to visit the OSU Waterman Dairy Farm and frolic with some dairy cows? The Buckeye Dairy Club invites you to participate in their annual showmanship contest, the Buckeye Royal, on Friday, October 23 at 5:00 p.m. Buckeye Royal is FREE to students, faculty and staff, and participants will receive a FREE long sleeve t-shirt to show in! There will also be a small awards ceremony and pot luck following the contest.
Novice/Experienced Categories: Participants will have two weeks to break a yearling Jersey heifer to lead for the contest. Participants are required to work with their animals at least four times prior to the contest. Practice times are 4:30-7:00 Monday - Friday, October 12-22. Buckeye Dairy Club members will be at the farm for assistance and advice. Weekend practices upon request. If those times do not work, contact Taylor Kruse or Libby Adelsberger, and they can work with your schedule.
Costume Contest: Since the contest is close to Halloween, the Buckeye Dairy Club has added a fun category – a costume contest! Pick a theme and find a costume for yourself and your heifer. Entries will be judged based on creativity, functionality and appeal. All costumes (for the heifers) must be pre-approved by the farm managers.
Registration ends October 7, so sign up today! Participants can register on the Buckeye Dairy Club board in the Animal Science lobby, on the Google Doc, or by directly emailing the Buckeye Dairy Club.
