The Columbus Zoo is looking for some "ZOOper" people to join their seasonal team! A seasonal job fair will be held Wednesday, September 16 from 4-6pm at the Zoo's Activity Pavillion. Positions in retail, food/beverage, and grounds maintenance will be open for interviews. From now until Wildlights, food/beverage and grounds maintenance members will earn $10/hour! Although the semester is just starting, it’s not too early to start preparing for the 2016 CFAES Recognition Program! This event is a highlight of the academic year, and celebrates success in the College – students, faculty, staff and others outside the university who help our students, both academically and in extra-curricular ways. The co-chairs for this event have an exciting opportunity to lead a group of highly-motivated peers to produce one of the largest student-run events at OSU! If you have experience in leading students and in event planning, consider this opportunity. Previous experience on the Recognition Program Committee is desired, but not compulsory. The Department of Animal Sciences has several office assistant openings in Plumb Hall this semester for work study students. If you find yourself with a few hours in between classes while on Ag Campus and still have not found a work study position, contact Joan Jerauld or stop in 116 Plumb Hall for an application!  

Barn positions are available for immediate start at a small, privately owned show barn in the Hilliard area. Work hours are 7:30-3:30 daily; roughly 20-25 hours a week, including weekends. Extra hours will be available during school breaks with the potential of a full-time summer position. Starting pay is $11.50-12.50 an hour. Minimal experience necessary. Applicant must provide references. Duties will include general horse care and farm upkeep. Please contact Michelle Trueman Gajoch if interested. 
 

A large commercial dairy farm is seeking to hire 2 to 3 part-time employees to assist with a dairy calf research project. The overall goal of the project is to reduce disease prevalence and increase recovery time for sick calves. A PhD student from the University of Wisconsin, who is currently a visiting scholar at The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, will mentor the student employees. Students will develop a strong understanding about calf health, and will get hands-on experience identifying calf diseases, and managing calves during the pre-weaning phase.

The student employee will aid with a research project from mid- October 2015 to June 2016. The employee will be trained to restrain dairy calves for a health examination, which includes respiratory score and lung ultrasonography. Employees will also be expected to perform respiratory scores on calves, record health score and treatment information, assist with blood sampling, and help with other project needs.

Position is paid $10/hr

Job Requirements:

• Must be available at least 2 days/week for 5 consecutive hours/day
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the farm (the farm is located 43 miles from OSU Columbus campus)
• Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends
• No calf handling experience is necessary, we can train you
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn

All OSU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) staff were sent home to tele-commute until further notice.The CCS phone line 614-292-5766 remains available for emergency assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can push 2 to reach a mental health counselor at any time.

CCS has suspended onsite and in person services, including those at embedded locations, through at least May 3, 2020.  You are still able to connect with a counselor  for a 30 minute phone or video consultation using Carmen Zoom or Skype. These consultations are offered 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday in order to check in with students, problem solve, and offer support.  Students will need to share their address/location at the time of the call.

Students can access many self-help tools that are available on the CCS website at https://ccs.osu.edu . The CCS COVID-19 updates page linked to the website is a great resource. On that page, students will find helpful coping skills such as the mental health strategies video series. This time that can be difficult for many. All students are encouraged to check that out.

If you encounter a suspected emergency situation with any student during this time, crisis support is available by calling CCS at 614-292-5766. If this happens with the student remotely located, please try to get as much contact information about the student such as name, phone number, OSU dot #, and address where they are currently located. If you suspect safety is at risk or compromised at that time for the student or anyone they are with, please call 9-1-1. They will help immediately regardless of where the student is physically located. After you have done one of the steps above, please let me know of the situation so that follow up contact attempts can be made with the student. Please make sure to provide me with the best way to reach you right now too.

In today’s world, employers seek evidence of career-relevant skills and competencies beyond listings on a resume. Students at all levels can easily create evidence-based credentials. In other words, attaching documents, videos, audio files, graphics, coding samples and presentations help demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.
