CAMPUS NEWS & EVENTS

  1. The Dept. of Animal Sciences is now taking orders for embroidered and screen print clothing items (button up shirts, polos, jackets, vests, sweatshirts, hats, etc.). This is only done once a year and everything is "made to order”.

  2. On Tuesday, November 13th from 6-8pm, the department of Animal Sciences will host a veterinary school workshop.

  3. We invite you to sign up for the Little l showmanship contest organized by OSU Saddle and Sirloin Club. No experience is required and contest is open to all OSU students.

  4. Experienced or inexperienced, Buckeye Royal is open to all participants who would like to try to show a Jersey heifer.  There is also a costume contest class to show in!  Participants are given 2 weeks to work with their heifer on how to lead in a showmanship competition with hopes of winning

  5. The Buckeye Leadership Fellows Program (BLF) is currently recruiting and accepting applications for the 2021 Cohort. Prospective Fellows are encouraged to submit an application as the deadline to apply is Friday, October 5 at 11:59 p.m.

INTERNSHIP & PART-TIME ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. The Hilmar Dairy Internship program is accepting applications now through December 10, 2018 at 5 pm PST. The internship is designed for college sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in dairy science, dairy management, animal science or vet science.

  2. Animal Medical & Emergency Hospital is looking for help with kennel work, cleaning, patient care, and assisting with client/patient visits. Their greatest needs are on weekday afternoons and weekends. They have a small, dedicated team of people who love animals and their people.

  3. Morse Road Veterinary Clinic is looking for someone to work in a small, busy vet clinic. They need someone who is good with people, and animals. They are a canine and feline only facility.

  5. East Central Select Sires has three openings relating to artificial insemination. As an A.I. specialist intern, you will have the opportunity to experience a career in the A.I. industry and work with the breeds’ most elite females to produce the next generation of impact bulls and females.

  6. Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show interns are vital to the success of the largest annual meeting in the U.S. beef cattle industry.

  7. Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds, LLC is a modern, thoroughbred facility located just 15 minutes from historic Saratoga Racecourse. They are currently accepting applications for the Breeding Internship program.

  8. Persons who have a strong desire to pursue a career in managing and/or marketing Registered Jersey™ cattle are encouraged to apply for the 2019 Fred Stout Experience awards.

  9. Maine Coast Heritage Trust is offering two apprenticeships at Aldermere Farm for individuals pursuing careers in agriculture. The lessons they learn go beyond the logistics of farm operations.

The Advancement Team in the College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for a student assistant.  Responsibilities include; preparing gift thank you notes and letters, coordinate mailings, assisting with event logistics, managing storage areas, and coordinate files for the development office.  Pos

  14. Diamond Creek Farm has an internship position open for summer 2019. This is an exciting opportunity for college students looking to break into the equine industry! Interns will be provided with housing, including utilities, and $400 salary per week.

  15. Cargill Animal Nutrition provides customized animal productivity solutions to commercial producers across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Rather than focusing on standardized nutrition products, they create customized ingredient blends and management programs to fit each situation.

  17. Valkyre Stud is a commercial thoroughbred operation located in Central Kentucky. They are currently seeking qualified interns to participate in their Spring educational program that will provide hands on experience in the areas of foaling, reproduction and general herd care.

GRADUATE SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES

  1. One graduate research assistantship (M.S. or PhD in Animal or Dairy Sciences) will be available for a spring 2019 start with a focus on the relationship between heat abatement and health in pastured dairy cattle.

FULL-TIME JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Washington State Universtiy is looking to hire a Dairy Operations Manager. The Dairy Farm Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the Department of Animal Sciences Dairy herd (Knott Dairy Center).

  2. Ohio Cattleman is looking to fill a position. The position requires excellent customer service and phone skills.

  3. Ohio Cattleman has a new position available. The position is responsible for all OCA internal and external communications.

  4. Fresh Mark Technical Services has a full-time senior research and development technician position available.

  5. Trueman Farms has immediate full-time and part-time positions open. Applicants will be exposed to veterinary care, have the opportunity to obtain leadership roles, and further their knowledge in horse care, handling, and training. Experience is not required, but preferred.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

  1. National Dairy Herd Information Association (DHIA) is now accepting applications for $1,000 scholarships! Applicants must be a family member or and employee of a herd on a DHI test, family member of a DHI employee, or employee of DHI affiliate.

  4. At A.P.E.S. (American Primate Educational Sanctuary) volunteers take on a role similar to that of a keeper in a zoo. They clean the cages, prepare meals, do dishes, prepare enrichment, and other upkeep that may need done.

  5. The Mid-Ohio Foodbank is hoping to share some of their volunteer opportunities with students and faculty. They have a variety of projects available and would love some new volunteers!
