I received my bachelor’s degree in Poultry Production and my Master in Poultry Breeding from Ain Shams University in Cairo. I moved to the USA. To pursue my graduate studies where I earned my Ph.D. in Animal Biology in 2017 from University of California, Davis. During my graduate studies, I was trained in various research areas including genetics, immunology, microbiology, and host-pathogen interaction in poultry. I received 4-year postdoctoral training in mucosal immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I investigated factors affecting the homeostasis of intraepithelial lymphocytes and their impact on intestinal health using the mouse model. In August 2021, I started my appointment as an assistant professor in nutritional immunology at the Department of Animal Science as well as Food for Health Discovery Theme. My research goal is to translate my mucosal immunology research in the murine model into farm animals, particularly poultry and pigs. I am interested in studying host-pathogen interactions, and resistance to enteric diseases in poultry.
