Biography:

Bain grew up in south central North Carolina and became interested in pursuing a career in Animal Science through livestock judging in 4-H and FFA and showing beef cattle and sheep. He was a member of the livestock judging teams at Black Hawk College-East Campus and Kansas State University where he earned A.S. and B.S. degrees, respectively. Bain then studied beef cattle nutrition in graduate school at the University of Illinois under the advisement of Dr. Dan Shike. He graduated with an M.S. degree in 2012 and a Ph.D. in 2015. His graduate research focused on the effects of beef cow nutrition during mid- and late gestation on the performance and carcass characteristics of their feedlot progeny. Additional research focused on the use of novel endophyte-infected tall fescue to alleviate fescue toxicosis in growing beef calves. From 2015 to 2016, Bain was a faculty member in the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech. While at Virginia Tech, he coached the collegiate and state 4-H livestock judging teams, worked with youth and adult livestock extension programs, served as state Beef Quality Assurance coordinator, and conducted applied beef cattle nutrition and management research. At Ohio State, Bain’s primary responsibilities are to coach the collegiate livestock judging team, oversee the 2-year livestock judging team at Ohio State ATI, teach classes, and conduct research.
