I have a split appointment in Horticulture and Crop Science and Animal Science and can advise graduate students in both departments.

My research interests center on manipulation of crop-livestock management strategies to achieve functionality, sustainability and resilience in a changing climate. I conduct multi-year analysis of large-scale databases to test different strategies at the field scale such as grazing management strategies, crop-rotations, and integrated crop-livestock systems. More specifically, I investigate factors that affect resilience of agroecosystems, such as how plants, animals, or microbes and their interactions respond to management and climate change. I investigate fluxes of C and N through plant and animal agroecosystems, monitoring environmental pressures such as greenhouse gas emissions from soils and animals, ammonia volatilization and nitrate leaching.
