Buckeye Dairy Club is involved with many activities throughout the year including:

CFAES Back to School Bash

This event takes place at the very beginning of each Fall Semester. At the event, new OSU freshmen have the opportunity to explore the clubs specific to CFAES, including the Buckeye Dairy Club. Current members work the recruitment booth as well as participate in the kickball tournament between all of the clubs.

Farm Science Review Milkshake Stand

Every year, Farm Science Review is held in London, Ohio. Buckeye Dairy Club members participate in making and selling milkshakes to make money for the club. In 2009, FSR was a special one when Buckeye Dairy Club, Ohio Dairy Producers Association, and American Dairy Association joined together to build the Ohio Dairy Industry center. Now, not only are milkshakes and cheese sandwiches sold in this building, but FSR-goers can learn about the industry from the displays and large TV's inside the building and club members can network with industry leaders. Watch an FSR video:

Ice Cream Social at Nosker House

The Ice Cream Social takes place every year after Farm Science Review. It is a chance for club members, students living in Nosker (the home of the CFAES learning community), and also anyone interested in the club to come and eat any left over ice cream from Farm Science Review. A general meeting also takes place.

Community Service Event

Every year the Buckeye Dairy Club strives to give back to its community. In years past, the club has helped with the Ronald McDonald House and Helping Hands.  This year, club members once again spent the day making lunch for families at the Ronald McDonald house.  It was a fulfilling experience as we were able to visit with families and see the facilities available to them.

Buckeye Royal Showmanship Contest

This contest is open to all students on campus, including dairy club members, with or without experience. It is an opportunity for students who are not from a dairy background to see, understand, and experience dairy cattle and try their hand at showing dairy cattle. Participants practice handling and showing their animals for a few weeks prior to the contest. For all participants, the show is an opportunity to compete with others and sharpen their skills. There will be hoodies provided for all show day participants as well as refreshments. We will also be broadcasting the show on Zoom! To sign up, please click on the link below to download the flyer for more information for the 2020 show! Within the flyer is an interactive hyperlink to sign up. If you have any questions, please contact Cameron Hupp at 740-885-9810 or hupp.130@osu.edu. We look forward to meeting everyone. It is a great way to de-stress, get to bond with some cows, as well as, get out and about with your peers and meet new people during this strange time!

Dairy Challenge

Dairy Challenge provides the opportunity for undergraduates at Ohio State University to experience the process of evaluating management practices on a dairy farm and to interact with representatives in the dairy industry.

BDC Holiday Dinner

At the end of fall quarter, a holiday dinner is prepared and each class brings a specific dish to share. As a club, we invite four to five companies within the dairy industry to join us. This is a fantastic opportunity for dairy club members to meet dairy industry professionals, share their resume, and hopefully secure a possibility for an internship or a job.

Spring Semester Activities

ADSA

The American Dairy Science Association- Student Affiliated Division (ADSA-SAD) has an undergraduate convention every year for dairy clubs throughout the mid-west. Buckeye Dairy Club members and advisors participate in farm tours, seminars, the annual meeting, quiz bowl, and many other fun activities and events during ADSA. This year members will be traveling to Ames, IA.

Buckeye Classic Sale

This sale is annually run and managed by club members, from the selections of heifers and embryos to tending for sale animals during spring dairy expo. The sale is an excellent learning experience as well as a fundraiser and promotor for dairy club. Check out the Spring Dairy Expo web site for more information.

Milk a Cow on the Oval

In Spring 2009, Buckeye Dairy Club introduced this event to campus to raise awareness about the dairy industry. Dairy Club members pass out literature about the dairy industry and string cheese. This event was supported by the American Dairy Association Mideast and the American Jersey Cattle Association. It was a great opportunity for non-rural students to get exposure to a dairy cow and learn about the dairy industry. Also, the club members benefited from being able to be advocates for the industry to others around campus.

Spring Trip

Every spring the club organizes a trip for club members that serves as a strictly for fun event that helps members get to know each other better and have a great time together. Previous year's spring trips have included white water rafting, a weekend of camping at a club member's farm, etc.

Intramural Sports

During winter semester, buckeye dairy club members participate in intramural sports. This year the Buckeye Dairy Club hopes to have more sports that members have the opportunity to participate in such as volleyball and kickball.
