Genetic Improvement

Genetic improvement in feed efficiency

Genetic improvement in feed efficiency becomes increasingly important as humans compete with livestock for feed grains used for food, fuel, and industrial purposes.  Dr. Michael Davis conducts research in this area. From an environmental standpoint, improvement in feed efficiency will allow reductions in land use for beef production and a smaller carbon footprint as cattle reach market weight in less time with less feed and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
